Am sooo relieved...I really feared the worst when I watched the replay and saw him somersault hitting the ground with his head/shoulders and then kicked....he is a lucky fella...three cheers for Ben Curtis...

An enquiry was held to consider an incident at the 2 furlong marker when VILLANELLE, ridden by Rob Hornby, had fallen, resulting in FORTULTOUS being brought down and Ben Curtis unseated. Kieran O'Neill, the rider of the winner, BAD ATTITUDE, and John Egan, the rider of IVAQUESTION (IRE), placed third, were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, but Hornby and Curtis were unable to be interviewed owing to their injuries. O’Neill was suspended for 12 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to shift left-handed towards the rail when insufficiently clear of VILLANELLE, causing the filly to clip heels and fall, resulting in FORTULTOUS being brought down, which in turn caused IVAQUESTION (IRE) to be badly hampered. Andrew Mullen, the rider of CAMACHO MAN (IRE), placed fifth, was also present in the enquiry but found not to have been involved in the interference.

Careless riding offence. 4 rivals chances ended as 1 horse stumbles, 1 horse takes a dreadful fall, 2 others lose all chance, 2 jockeys lucky to be alive, but no stewards enquiry 'called', winner keeps the race. Only in the UK. A farcical situation. Thank God the 2 jockeys were OK. Not sure Fortultous will be so lucky.

O'Neill switches to the outer from 3 out to make headway and as he passes Fortultous, Curtis just has to check a bit as his mount becomes a bit keen.
O'Neill glances back to check he's clear of Fortultous and then holds a line 3 wide with Hornby to his inner before moving up 3 wide to challenge for the lead.
In theory, if Hornby stays directly in behind the leader, there shouldn't have been an issue, but the problem he had was that whereas his mount Villanelle was travelling well, the leader Camacho Man wasn't, and he's just angled out ever so slightly, but that was enough for Villanelle's right fore leg to catch Bad Attitude's left rear leg.
I can't see why they've banned O'Neill for 12 days, but he's just unlucky, because he did seem to hold that 3-wide line.
