Used to get scrubbed along drop out the screen 30 lengths adrift then stay on, in handicaps.

The one im thinking of was just a bog standard staying hurdler in the early days of Betfair.
Did Bonanza Boy get left at the start in a Welsh National by around 15 lengths one time, or was it Run For Free ? |

It was Run For Free that got left at the start and still won but I think it was the Scottish National.

Again not the answer to your question but Derring Rose was a proper rogue , remember Francome winning on the beast at Ascot one afternoon in what was probably the ride of the millennium.

Levaramoss. Rated 152 at his peak, won the Free Handicap at Chepstow and the Salmon Spray Hurdle at Fontwell in 1977/8. However, he twice refused to race, including in the New Year’s Day Hurdle at Windsor and even a change of stable made no difference – he was thoroughly unco-operative in all his subsequent races, including in point-to-points, and he was banned in January 1981.

Mad Moose refused to race on five occasions, his reluctance to race and being pulled up before the first in the 2013 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown not counting among them. On his day, he was a useful performer who won six races over jumps, and even made a winning debut on the Flat at the age of nine in an attempt to rekindle his enthusiasm. That didn’t last long though and he refused to race two outings later. After the Tingle Creek, he was banned from racing, but the authorities relented to allow him back at Cheltenham a year later; he refused to race again, and that was it.

It was definitely a Pipe horse.
It wasn’t a high profile superstar, just a plain old staying handicapper that generally ran midweek over hurdles. I believe it ran in his colours but couldn’t be sure. Did win at 1000 in running before people got wise to it. Then it wouldn’t drift bigger than 50s even when 30 to 40 lengths adrift. Don’t know what made me think of it, probably too obscure a horse to be remembered name wise, but would guarantee if someone mentioned it’s name loads would remember it. Cheers anyway |

TT, You can bring up every MC Pipe owned horse from the 89-90 season onwards, on the RP site.
Search for "MC Pipe" as an owner, a long list of names comes up but MC Pipe appears when you expand the search. Click on his name, then click on the "horses" tab, the "filter", select jumps and go through each year. Not as laborious as it sounds because he didn't have huge numbers running in his own colours. I've had a look but nothing is ringing a bell. Even when searched under as a trainer, it's easy enough to scroll down the list of horses for each season from the late 80s onwards. |

Are you thinking of that Bernard Llewellyn hurdler that used to tail itself off in desperate ground at Chepstow, with Christian Williams throwing the kitchen sink at it, before motoring past everything from the last? Biscar Two?
