Why is everyone always so intent in having a dig at Ryan Moore?
Racing as a sport is awash with mental health issues & constantly digging someone out surely doesn't help. |
|
By:
Totally agree.
|
|
By:
I'm sure Ryan doesn't give a hoot what anyone on here says, whats his username iyo....
|
|
By:
Is it because he is English workrider?

These people put their lives on the line for our entertainment and constant jockey criticism is just not necessary.
James Banks and Liam Treadwell, to name just two, committed suicide, many other jockeys are in wheelchairs for life or so badly injured their careers as jockeys are over. How Saffie Osbourne escaped serious injury yesterday was a miracle but will be on the sidelined for sometime. As I have said before constant and persistent criticism of certain jockeys is bullying in my opinion and is unacceptable and for whatever reason Ryan Moore seems to receive more than his share which I find incredulous. |

Trolls don't seem to understand their words can have consequences.
|

By:
that is sad to hear that about the jockeys, believe every successful professional gambler should make a donation to the injured jockeys fund every year

By:
I believe it's acceptable if opinions are about his riding.

workrider, an announcement soon iyo, RE: Keane and Ballydoyle?
Another winner today for Colin on one for the 'lads', on a heavily backed, erm, cough, amen, "second string" ! |
|
By:

|
|
By:
Apart from Coolmore, he has ridden winners for Richard Hannon, Michael Stoute, Donnacha O`Brien, Charlie Hills, Roger Charlton, Marco Botti, William Haggas, Robert Cowell, Hugo Palmer, Charlie Appleby, Brian Meehan, Ismail Mohammed and David Elsworth.

He did lift the Hannon/Hamdan one over the line today I spose...

His ability as a jockey is not in question but I just can`t put my finger on what it is about him these last couple of years.
Win lose or draw it makes no difference to him,is that because he has more than enough money and the hunger has gone ? if he loses the Ballydoyle job I don`t think he will be bothered. He is a strange one, Piggott was odd and a one off but through it all you could see how he liked winning. I just wish Ryan showed a bit more emotion, I don`t know to trust him or not in a race now. |
|
By:
You could be right ptish. My feeling is that it's just a job to him now and the buzz isn't there any
more. It must happen to some jockeys. Spencer could be another example. It's understandable really. I was in a job that many people would kill for, a club tennis professional. For the last 10-15 years it just became a way of making a living and I couldn't wait to get out of the club to head off to the races! |

George B , I have been highlighting that Colin was sure to get the Coolmore job for ages now , top class jockey and seems a nice lad.
Acey , of course its nothing to do with him been English, its simply because hes not good enough. One of the poorest Champion jockey ever imo. Hopefully Ryan never pops in here to read what I or anyone else says Feltfair , then again plenty on here think he's the bees knees but according to your way of thinking that doesn't matter . Having had many a jockey as friends I fully understand the pressure they are under, in fact some of them would tell you they rode stinkers for whatever reason. This is a forum in case you have forgot, here to allow punters express themselves and have opinions on many topics, where I do agree with you is nobody has the right to abuse anyone including their families etc, my opinions are strictly about his riding of certain horses nothing else. Have you ever been to a football match and heard the abuse hurled at some players while their family members are within earshot. |

Why isn't Heffernan given the top job at Coolmore? Seems more than good enough to me....
|
|
By:
Too old now methinks , but as you rightly say more than good enough and has always done as told....
|

"One of the poorest Champion jockey ever imo."
Champion jockey for x3 years before taking the Ballydole job. Hard to fault that. |
|
By:
My opinion might not be right but its still my opinion as is yours...Lets be honest about British Champion jockeys , one of them was Irish and he was Champion for 20 years he was only second best to Ruby, again its only my Opinion Feltfair...

FWIW I'm with Workrider here 100 percent.
Moore is without doubt the most overrated jockey of recent times. Currently I wouldnt have him in the top 10 on the flat. The media love him and he hates the media, barely a bad word from them on him, even when recently some of his riding has been quite frankly appalling..... Far too many examples to list but fairly recently at Newmarket his riding was bordering on embarrassing. And not for the first time over the past couple of seasons. In my view his best days are long behind him and would be zero loss to the sport. The polar opposite of Me Dettori. Who will be a huge loss, and incidentally is a far superior jockey and always has been. |
|
By:
On Ruby, without doubt imo the greatest NH jockey ever, but soured my opinion of him with his greed....
Should have gone way earlier than he did when it was so clear he wasnt the rider he once was. |

I agree somewhat with what you say, Moore hates the media and the limelight and Dettori loves it, so the only way for Frankie to revel in it and lap it up is to win big races, Moore can live without the adulation so perhaps is not riding as well as he is capable of. |

"Ryan. Cool as a cucumber. Homework. Determination. Much better than me," says Dettori.

But all are dull in comparison to Sir Gordon's 4870 winners. Think how many he could have ridden now with more meetings a day to ride at.

Hi Workrider - hope you're coping with this continuing lockdown cycle, seems fairly harsh restrictions over there but Nicola waiting in the wings to shut us down harder than even Irish/Welsh have so far!!!
Ryan has definitely taken his eye off the ball past 3 years or so, just goes to show that jockeys who survive at the top for 20+ years a la Piggott, Eddery, Carson, Dettori (and even more on the jumps McCoy/Walsh/Johnson/Geraghty) need to have an unusual level of physical/mental discipline. My issue with Ryan is that he rides 95% of his mounts in the same way, well out the back and then asking for effort 2-3f out, looks great when it works but seems to have been less successful recently. My own preference has/is for my fancies to be nearer the front - it was always true that worst spot to be was off the pace in a slow run race and over jumps well you can't be unsighted or brought down if you're in front!! Whilst it's true that there have been high profile mental health issues amongst jockeys, this is unfortunately not unique to jockeys and 2020 will have driven many closer to the edge for sure, however in regards of criticism (some of it warranted as there are many examples of misjudged rides each day, in fact I'd say more than at any time I can remember and I've watched 1000s of races over past 40 years), my own view is that it goes with the territory - anywhere money can be won/lost in such a public setting will result in emotionally charged positions. being a jockey is a choice, like being a postman or insurance clerk, so if they can't cope with the level of scrutiny then probably best look for another career. |

Today will be fascinating.. .Ryan v. Buick (Wembley vs. One Ruler)
WHO is your money on? |

Both top jockeys, the horse will decide.

King Vega for me. Murphy has a had a lean week by his standards but he gave this a very positive word in an interview.

All Jockies get a bit of stick, I remember when we took my mum to Fontwell many years ago and she was wagging her finger at Peter Scudamore who had just come second in a 3 mile race telling him off as she had backed him. Just what he wanted when he was knackered after the ride, but he probably took no notice as it is a common occurrence.
I like Frankie and you can see he knows how to handle the media, he is always looking out of the corner of his eye to see where the cameras are and switches on his grin when the time is right. |

Gordon, spent 9 hours in A/E last night getting my legs checked for clots thank God nothing wrong showed up so back home @ 4am only woke around 1.0c so no time to study so no bets , I met Simon in Naas recently and we spoke about how hard it is now that you can't get into the track , really missing that side of things as you know I love to check them out in the paddock . I suppose we have to take our medicine , stay well my friend and who knows maybe we could all be back on track sooner rather than later...
