Hmm I wonder...maybe because we are posting on forum of the worlds biggest betting exchange that generates prices via market forces that effectively take a dump on both your board prices and the industry SP prices? NAPCry Infact....I know they do...because you lot all fetch your prices from here Laugh

Anyone not wanting 100s and 100s on can get it on here quite easily with patience.

Have a nice day.

try getting more than a couple of hundred with any online bookmaker. far more chance with a bookmaker on course. what swaddle (in his bookie bashing ignorance) fails to realise is that on course bookmakers did not invent exchanges. as exchanges are here then they have to be guided by them now. if not they will get filled in by arbers.
Report sparrow August 19, 2020 4:41 PM BST
Although I'm an exchange backer myself I think this thread is unfair to on course bookmakers considering their expenses and what they're up against these days.
Report democrat August 19, 2020 5:40 PM BST
Good points dominuet and sparrow. Punters who want a bet to a sum that far exceeds the liquidity on offer on the Exchange will always get accommodated on course, at competitive prices, provided they know which bookmakers to ask - and most of these punters do know who to ask !!

I punt with the on course bookies most days when racing which is most days, as some on here know I travel over to the U.K. several times a year , many years ago at Sedgefield when the electric boards first came out I asked a bookie for a £300 to £900 bet, he refused and the price on his board went to 11/4 again I asked for a bet of £300 @ 11/4 again I was refused and amazingly his board then went to 5/2 . The horse fell at the last when in contention , so the next time I'm in that part of the World I shall come on here and ask the names of bookies that Actually DO take a bet...
Report democrat August 20, 2020 2:02 PM BST
Interesting post workrider and I am sure you will understand that naming the names of those prepared to lay your bets is somewhat sensitive. I am unaware of which bookies stand at Sedgefield but I am confident, without looking at the list, a willing layer exists. Do you venture further South where my knowledge of the layers is more certain ? Hopefully you will soon be able to discriminate between the triers and non-triers
in the bookmaking ranks enabling you to successfully place your bets.

Think it was Keith Johnson not Turner. I think he said he was up at the start of Saturday so don't know if he had a losing Saturday. Wonder if York charged them the usual multiple for admission?
Report ribero1 August 23, 2020 10:15 AM BST
None of the "trials" will be much good as its purely owners only and when you think about it the big meetings will be the worst as the owners will mostly consist of big international owners, more chance at a small meeting where the local owner will bring his mates with him and more syndicates, also York will have put on a very good spread for them and no reason to come out, there was a Hills shop on site,on thursday they did 8 bets and friday 6!
Hi Manoleeds,no charge to stand fortunately.

Interesting to read your comments ribero. Sanity was restored with cash bets being allowed. Knowing that business was likely to very moderate it was good that you and KJ were prepared to stand and to illustrate that bookmakers should be present at all meetings when circumstances allow.

Hi Democrat, going forward lots of books will no doubt get the card machines yet they will surely be a waste of money as definitely not enough business if nearly everyone has one, think those who have had them previously found them viable because of their scarcity but when the ring becomes flooded with them a completely different story.

Agree about card machines.More exes for something that is a waste of time.ITV kept pushing the difference between oncourse and firm prices but i think this will have  pushed the people who are happy to use cards more down the phone route.Oncourse is cash, cash, cash.

Hi Regit, not having a card machine myself he was the provider in that department, one big happy family.

around 2000 the new computer software and print out tickets on course saw reluctance to accept them on course by the old school but they soon realized they had to compete and all eventually had to have them, similar here all will have to have card machines the difference is the crowds will never be like it once was due imo of never been able to find a covid cure just like the common cold.
Most businesses are having to change and having to take cards and pay out in cash seems one way forward just a different way of doing things
Report beatherder12 August 24, 2020 11:52 AM BST
Agree about the computers coming in 2000 most of us were a bit wary of them but it was forced upon us and hold my hand up they were right and we were wrong about them. The card machine is a totally different matter how many times does a problem happen when making a purchase or even the systems going down? In my opinion far too much for course bookmakers to negotiate when working to a limited timescale. Also it will cost extra money for us to use and for a smalltime layer as myself may not be viable in an ever decreasing market
Report ashleigh September 4, 2020 12:26 PM BST
see that 11 bookmakers will be able to stand at the warwick meeting on sept 21st, any news on how many can stand at doncaster/newmarket?
