Even without any dodgy dealings, the market (ie punters and pundits) overreacts to the choice of the stable jockey and prices them up as: Stable Jockey Evens; Second String 10/1 or 20/1 or 50/1.

But we do not know if the choice was made on the basis of a pound between them, or a stone. Or even, as with Ryan Moore's Derby mount, if the jockey has even seen the horses he is choosing between because he is stuck in the wrong country.

In maidens they don't often know which will win either. If you think it is deliberate, bet accordingly.
