Looks like the 2 metre rule will go this week so anytime after the 4th July. Limited numbers to start with but starting to look good.

you are probably going to have to start with limited numbers . maybe september when kids are back at school ?then you have to think owners first , racecourse staff , etc ...they are not just going to open the floodgates for us all to cram into york for ebor day in august . if they did it would look like something from shaun of the dead by about 8pm .

France to allow up to 5000 fans into stadiums to watch live sport from 11th July. Don't see any reason why we will be significantly different to that.

Going by all your posts it seems to me that you may be actually enjoying this pandemic. First of all you told us some weeks ago that it would be 'years' before we go could back to the racecourse and you have not really relented since. We do live in a democracy, not that you'd believe it on here sometimes, so you are well entitled to your views. BUT, you have got it wrong over this pandemic again and again, mostly through failing to realise that economics is so critical today. The economy was never going to take a really extended lockdown and it won't be locked down again, unless at a local level, even if a second wave begins. So, stop lecturing us all about how we should not be missing the races etc etc. Have you actually been racing yourself or do you troll the internet trying to spread doom and gloom? You irritate me immensely. |

All sports have been lumped together under one banner and from the 1st June have been able to resume behind closed doors and that's the problem. Some sports are better equipped than others to resume with crowds and within different sports, some locations are also better equipped than others. France are allowing crowds at sporting events of 5000 from 11th July. Old Trafford and Anfield wouldn't even look at such a proposal whereas lower league clubs would snap your hand off. Old Trafford cricket ground internationally holds 26000, why not have a crowd of say 8000 with 2 out of every 3 seats unused and taped off? Racecourses are arguably better equipped for crowds than any other sporting event, acres of open spaces and as much fresh air as you want! Again, each location could be looked at differently rather than a blanket allowance of the same numbers at each course. It seems that once a decision has been made, ie 1st June behind closed doors, nothing else happens for a while. We should be looking at things more positively and moving forward. There's nothing but good news and optimism on the pendemic these days, even the BBC are struggling to come up with anything negative. There are no people in intensive care today and deaths, however sad and unfortunate, were down to 15 the last day or so.

Probably not until Aug/Sep for the general public. Owners haven't been allowed back yet even though the betting shops are open. In New York you can sit outside in a bar restaurant now, no reason why public shouldn't be allowed racing. Unfortunately the fake narrative is still being pushed by too many.

Allowing people to attend sporting fixtures is not vital to the functioning of the economy, whereas the downsides are all too obvious.

CNN have nothing to talk about past few days, the "riots" have completely vanished as predicted and oh look the virus is getting some coverage again

well id rather have the real crowds there, and forget about opening bars, hospitality etc, let people bring their own picnics with limited wine etc, im sure everything would be fine then without the pissheads

ps real crowds , i mean the real racegoers and have nice picnic areas for families which should be easy to social distance them, and have some bookies there, i reckon trundle hill will be packed for goodwood,( and i might be there )

Racecourses, with their acres of open spaces and fresh air are arguably the safest sporting venues to have crowds back in some way. Bars, food outlets, toilets etc could be managed socially as most pubs and restaurants seem to be currently preparing for. Unfortunately, racing and racecourses have been lumped together with all other sports and that's the problem.

The pubs will be open in August so I am pretty sure tracks will be in September (with obvious restrictions). As you say Elisjohn no reason at all open spaces at tracks shouldn't be used.
