might be an argument for sticking the 'bandit screens' back up in the interest of staff safety. There will be desperate fuggers out there when the gravy-train comes to a screeching halt. Robbers paradise with masks not raising an eyebrow. Hell to play when a punter is knocking the door down to get a oner on one but can't get in because the 'shop busy' sign is up with the two or three smelly feckers sat there with their TTC forecast double slips, hogging the Racing Post.

yes its mad i've just walked down the sh!thole of narborough road leicester the ladbrokes on the corner has a sign saying knock on the door for entry and then covid signs about distancing, well good luck with that as the same people of east european descent who frequent this place also have been street drinking just outside an east european supermarket nearby with total disregard for social distancing in groups of 10 or more

Absolutely agree Storm, been arguing it for months on here. Not ONE single reason to justify opening ANY betting shop,ANYWHERE in the world. The greedy bastards want to squeeze the very last cent from the most vulnerable in all society.

You will not hear shame or any other contrition from these bastards, you will hear "We are looking after the most vulnerable, giving them somewhere to come and meet their mates"!!

They will forget, taking the money given by benefits, charities and emergency funders.

1.01 that Coral and Ladbrokes shops are at least 50% closed by 31 July, permanently, same for the others.NAP

you're welcome to visit the utopia that is Sir Peter Soulsbys Leicester and enjoy the delights it has

have breakfast in Saint Matthews ( a warm cup of tea is always waiting for us white folk)

a leisurely stroll through the cesspit of what was once Leicesters affluent area (i kid you knot (mispel on poipus) Highfields try to dodge the red lights at night especially if driving and dont talk to the women (they maybe undercover and in some cases they actually are)

a dowmhill walk dooown London Road takes you further downhill into Soulsbys lair woooo aaaah its his cultural quarter and the curve theatre an £80 milliom  greenhouse and at the time the Walkers Stadium cost £30 million now called the King Power Stadium the home of Leicester City Football Club and thats the only time Leicester City should be used in the same sentence

its time to put the crash hat on and venture if you dare into the dark forboding neglected shadows of Humberstone Gate which looks like the set for Escape from New York and in tragic terms the white natives (oh how we laugh at that term) have just done that to be replaced from the cast of the future of the film

I've been in this morning (Corals).  To be fair the shop has done what they can, screens up to divide the betting terminals and the FOBT's.  Any single FOBT on it's own is out of use, only say a row of 3 or 4 will be used.  No tea or coffee, toilets closed and hand sanitisers available.  Stickers over the floor asking where to queue etc.... but that's probably where it ends.  The queue stickers are only really a metre away from the walls so anyone wanting to look at the Racing Post display will be within two metres of anyone queuing to get a bet on.  The screens are good to divide punters but anyone entering the shop will have to walk past them and will again be within two metres of somebody.  There was a guy playing roulette and following what I have seen for years where they press the button, turn away, go for a walk and then turn round to see where the wheel is currently at.  That's not exactly staying within the perimeter of the screen, but that's not the shops fault.

There was a couple of instances where a few people broke the rules as well with social distancing (two or three people wanting to read the same race card on the wall and easily too close).  But, I expect a lot of other shops away from the bookmaking trade will have similar problems now that they are opening back up.

social distancing is government advice, not the law, so it is an individual's choice whether to adhere to it or not

Been to Billy’s, laddies and paddy’s

Billy’s - worst of the lot, worst prices (self service now mirror the pathetic prices behind the counter), no hand sanitizer for punters, stickers on the floor for social distancing , shop was clean and I was only person inside.

Laddies - self service terminals still a joke with worse prices than behind the counter, and now the self service terminals you can’t take a price on horses or greyhounds!! Staff rang around and confirmed,  its a new policy ‘until the horses have had a few runs’
Report Dav_vin03 June 15, 2020 3:38 PM BST
Laddies didn’t have any markets on self service or behind the counter for the championship outright winners market!
‘I could ring up but it takes ages to get through’

On a plus side they had hand sanitizer unlike the others
Report Dav_vin03 June 15, 2020 3:43 PM BST
Paddy’s - barely any Covid precautions other than a weird floor Sticker system

But on a plus, happy to take a bet

£500 on West Brom 5/2 cash to win championship
£50 on Fulham 40/1 cash to win championship

Best price around, hills and laddies (online check as they couldn’t get me a price in shop) both 9/4 and 33/1 same bets

Paddy gets my business .

It’s not like you can get more than £50 on a horse or dog on those self service machines, and even then it tries to lower the odds if it doesn’t like the potential pay out

Refusing to take a price is bonkers

Went into Ladbrokes just after 11 this morning. I was the only customer. Pens and betting slips as normal.

Had £50 each way on Summer Moon in the last, because I wanted the 5 places. Paid with 5x £20 notes, no problem. Only had to wait 6 minutes for the bet to be accepted, so I guess they can't be doing much trade.

The only thing which felt unsafe was the stifling atmosphere. In the old days there would have been an open door with a plastic strip curtain, which would have felt much healthier.
Report Manoleeds June 16, 2020 1:28 PM BST
Went into Billy's in Wetherby. No seats and no Racing Post. There was a sign on the door saying a maximum capacity. Can't see them taking much over the counter -used to be that for Royal Ascot in some, but not all, bookies that the regulars would bring in crisps, nuts, cake etc.
Report Storm Alert June 16, 2020 8:27 PM BST
I just couldn't justify going to a bookies atm. You have to put family and friends first. I wonder how many of the older generation who contract Covid-19 in a bookies will regret the visit forever.

Luckily I don't have any family or friends to put first, so I was able to get the 11/1 Summer Moon this morning.

Sixty quid profit on the each way, well worth a brush with the Peking pox imo.

Also the dog was over the moon to see her friends behind the counter again, which is the important thing.

Report screaming from beneaththewaves June 16, 2020 11:04 PM BST
The good reason for going in was to get the 11/1 Summer Moon, 1/5 the odds 5 places.

That's odds of 3.2 for the place, when it was only 2.6 on here. Or, the difference between a return of £160 in the shop, and only £130 minus commission on here.

Plus, it was just good to see the staff again. I don't have any family, and being deaf I haven't spoken to anyone for weeks.
