Hi, can anyone help with the following please? I think Merry Cricketer won 2 races during the 1974 flat season, I've got his win of 2nd October at Newmarket ridden by Des Cullen if anyone can access the results from earlier in the season I'd appreciate it. I use the Times digital archive for results but for whatever reason there are some issues missing. Does anyone use the British Newspaper Archive, if so I'd like to know is it easy to use? many thanks

The more you use it, the easier it gets. The scans that I have looked at though are very poor quality.

Thanks for your help fellas, much appreciated. Yes it's still missing from the Times Ged which as you say can sometimes be the case however Onlooker has filled the gap for me. I was going to subscribe to the British Newspaper Archive hoping to browse some old copies of the Sporting Life however it doesn't look like it'll be of much use as it looks like it only goes as far as 1912, a bit before my time

candobetter....They are adding to the Newspaper Archives every week so you just need to keep checking. I myself am waiting for them to digitise a particular newspaper for the 1940s and 50s.

I'm not sure why you don't see the issues for June 4/5. I can browse them (through the Gale portal, via the National Library of Scotland).
The horse was trained by Albert Davison to start with. He won his one and only race as a 2yo at Leicester at 14/1. (One of the also rans, at 33/1, was Confusion, who, as a 4yo, 'won' the infamous Queen Anne of 1974 when the first 3 home were DQ'd). He was then down to run in the Lockinge (won by Sparkler) on his 2nd outing as a 3yo, to be ridden by Michael Kettle(5), but was a NR - instead he ran 3 days later in an ordinary 3yo handicap at Leicester off 8-2 and wasn't in the first 4 of 7 runners. I don't know what Albert was doing entering him in the Lockinge - there were 13 runners, so he wasn't likely to be nicking any place money. Do you know better?
