If all vulnerable people now have to self isolate for 12 weeks. Shouldn't the rest of us be allowed to the pub or even go to work? We can't hurt anyone and the quicker we catch it and get over it the better. You can't have it all ways. If the vulnerable are locked up safe and sound that's the end of that isn't it??

Do you pay business rates?  If not, depending on how it's setup, you might be able to get a one-off £10k grant.

Support for businesses that pay little or no business rates
The government will provide additional Small Business Grant Scheme funding for local authorities to support small businesses that already pay little or no business rates because of small business rate relief (SBBR), rural rate relief (RRR) and tapered relief. This will provide a one-off grant of £10,000 to eligible businesses to help meet their ongoing business costs.

Eligibility
You are eligible if:

your business is based in England
you are a small business and already receive SBBR and/or RRR
you are a business that occupies property

Why do people feel the need to bring party politics into this awful situation, i'm not a natural Tory voter but must say i'm stunned that a Tory govt have introduced the most wide ranging measures to protect workers wages to try to keep them in jobs. 80% of wages being payed directly by the govt, who could ever have envisaged that! Yes the Self employed seem to be an anomaly at the moment but possibly this may be addressed soon. Of course it's very difficult to ascertain how much money a lot of those would earn, many will already pay a lot less tax than those on PAYE and are going to be given VAT and tax breaks as well.
I think the govt are doing their very best for people in very troubling times.
The posts from True honcho are just plain ignorant of how this virus is spread, wake up son for all your families sake as well as everyone elses!
Report geoff m • March 23, 2020 7:54 AM GMT
I think they govt have played an absolute blinder.
In unprecedented circumstances they aint going to get 100% right.
Yes they have created a situation where the employed who are kept on the books but cant work have financial security (80% of yer wages sat @ home) they will find they are better off financially than they have ever been.
The self employed is an area they have dropped a bollack and needs addressing and will be amazed if this isnt addressed in the next few days.

Personally I dont vote but if there was a general election tommorrow id vote for Boris.
I thought he was a buffoon but clearly not.

Easy to pick out what theyve got wrong but theyve got far more right.

the payouts shocked everyone , thatcher will be turning and I doubt even labour would have gone half as far

my guess , a bribe to silence the herd immunity outcry

sceptical cnt I know cant help it tbh

the weekend after the herd immunity slip up there was a massive surge in public fear in the media , against boris , who at the time disappeared for three days

you started seeing things like genocide and Mengele being thrown at the party leader from a now panicked public who had just witnessed Wuhan and Italy unfold

cue a hastily written statement in sunday tabloid from hancock swiftly denying "herd immunity" or as public seen it the systematic infection of a nation as a strategy to deal with virus , and limit damage to economy long term

its a crisis any party leader would struggle to deal with tbh , but when reflection finally emerges I hope a nation doesn't look back in anger at a slow response for a herd immunity strategy as that's the reality

remember there were direct and indirect warnings from WHO also regarding ban on events/gatherings and social distancing measures being slow to take effect

the phase plan , remember that ? long gone
Report truehoncho • March 23, 2020 10:57 AM GMT
Well Hello I don't think you are sceptical, it is clear to me that until there is a high level of herd immunity there will always be a high risk. There are no vaccines so healthy people need to get it and get over it asap.
Report hello :-) • March 23, 2020 11:03 AM GMT
there is a measure of that honcho I agree , other side of scale could have been preventing spread until vaccine or test kit to flag up who had it already were available

but I really don't think the NHS staff or families of vulnerable would tbh , and its far to early to judge

tho it is very interesting almost every conference boris does he mentions "led by the science " or "trusing the science" ...is that a preparation for an out down the line ?
Report truehoncho • March 23, 2020 11:15 AM GMT
If all vulnerable groups are self isolating now then now is the time for the rest of us to get it. NHS staff are no different, if they are vulnerable they are also self isolating now and not going to work. If the vulnerable are self isolating for 12 weeks than we should have tests available before they come out of self isolation. It will be over a year before a vaccine, the world economy will be absolutely trashed by then and there will be nothing left for young people or children.

Report truehoncho • March 23, 2020 11:40 AM GMT

My dad who was as fit as a flee dropped dead at 49 with a brain tumor. This virus is no more deadly than the flu it is just more contagious because it is new and we have no immunity to it. You either have to accept isolation for people until there is a vaccine or accept that there will be vulnerable people at risk of dying from it.
