Fred has obviously lost a bundle. He bought at 130 and now it's 86. Averaging down is normally not a good strategy. I don't like William Hill and I don't care much for Fred either, but @ 86 this share price has more upside than downside imo. A few weeks ago they were trading @ 170 and before the ban on roulette machines they were 320. I don't see the price going up to 170 or 320 anytime soon, but @ 86 the company has got to be a takeover target if Fred or someone else has access to more liquidity.
I have bought @ 86, stop loss 60.

Was thinking of buying a few 1oz Gold Britannias and enquirer at my local Barclays, who told me that the high street Banks no longer deal in these coins. Anybody else bought any, and who are the reputable dealers nowadays?

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is spending, spending, spending, through tax reliefs, loan support and cash grants to help British businesses get through the coronavirus crisis. The leisure and entertainment industry has been granted a business rate holiday on all properties.
It was too late to halt the slide in the share prices of betting businesses with extensive high-street estates on Tuesday. GVC’s shares fell 13 per cent, after horseracing was suspended until the end of April. William Hill’s shares fell a quarter.
Wm Hill still looks like the donkey in the race. This week, the company outlined the cost of the suspension of sports fixtures from the Cheltenham Gold Cup to Euro 2020. It said postponing races and matches, closing casinos in the US and shutting its high-street betting shops for a month would cost up to £110m of earnings before tax and other negatives. That equates to about 40 per cent of analysts’ forecasts for 2020. And every month its shops are shut will cost it an extra £25m to £30m of ebitda.
Coronavirus is kicking a donkey that is already down. The group made a £37m pre-tax loss last year after a regulatory clampdown forced it to shut 713 of its high-street outlets.
Rivals Flutter and GVC are also being bashed by the sporting fixtures freeze. Sports betting accounts for 45 per cent of GVC revenues and about four-fifths of Flutter’s. On Tuesday, GVC said the suspension of British horseracing would wipe out up to £25m of its ebitda in the year to December. However, it has plenty of cash and an undrawn credit facility of £550m and is a very long way from breaching its covenants.
Wm Hill is burdened by its legacy estate of shops and £535m of debt taken on to fund its expansion in the US. Before this week’s profit warning, net debt stood at about 2.4 times ebitda. The company has £425m in undrawn credit facilities. But the group is upfront that it is working with its lenders to “enhance its liquidity position”. Most tellingly, it has frozen its dividend to save it about £45m this year.
If the disruption from Covid-19 is shortlived, shares that are off 70 per cent in a month may look like an option on consolidation in the sector and the group’s US expansion paying off. But while they say the house always wins, in Wm Hill’s case, don’t bet on it.

'Fred' is now asking for a rent holiday from landlords on their shops due to the cancellation of sports. How cheeky is that? When 'Fred' was coining it in with fobt did he volunteer a rent increase? No way I say to his request. If 'Fred' could afford to buy the shares of a rival firm he ought to 1st consider disposing of these shares to pay his landlords. Then after downsizing, if necessary.
Take the rough with the smooth; 'Fred' have had the smooth for over 2 decades yet unwilling to absorb the present predicament. I'd say consider exiting the industry if the going is tough. But, stop whining!

I'd expect vulture funds hovering and looking for carcasses of Covid-19 betting entities and others. A great opportunity to pick up good stocks cheaply. But, not just yet.

Hard stock to trade now...shops closed from Friday so you would expect them to go down further..problem is at 37p they are so low the volatilty is massive all it takes is government bailout(very unlikey), rent rebate, covering staff costs, tax concession... and they will bounce... ive had them shorted all the way down from 1.44 but they could quite easily become a penny stock...empty shops with big rents, fack all to bet on, big anti gambling sentiment and a **** load of debt that they can't service...they really should go bust. Takeover ?? there probably is some value there but i'm **** if i can see it

Only buy entities with cash or little debt; those with debts incurred buying up other entities(recently) be very careful. They may be cheap, but for a reason; remember GEC/Marconi and RBS.
It's a buyer's market. Astute selective purchases can reap mega rewards middle and long term.

Funny I said the same as someone else on the forum William hill would turn in his grave.

During the last free bet debacle I received a snippy email reply from their customer service team informing me if I wasn't happy I could close my account.
