Plenty of money for both here, (Samcro 6 into 4 and Faugheen 6 into just under 5) The roof will lift if Faugheen comes up the hill in front.Jumping going to decide it.Both act on the track so that shouldn't be a problem.

One worry is that Faugheen had a very hard race LTO but to counter balance  Samcro has a big deficit to turn around on their last meeting but has not raced since and is coming here fresh which is pushing me his way.

Any thoughts.

GE will I am sure have Samcro ready to do himself justice tomorrow and I am hoping that DR takes the opportunity afforded him by JK's absence to show just what a great rider he can be on the big occasion as he has done so many times before.

My thoughts are they will do very well to beat Mr Fisher and Itchy feet....especially Samcro!!

On sentiment I hope it's Faugheen vs Samcro at the business end; the former with a more polished round of jumping, the latter a wind-op doing the oracle.

You need a good jumper at Cheltenham. Novice chases around here are not my cup of tea.

I understand. But, it's the machine vs the once perceived 2nd coming.

I am a Samcro fan and I think today is his day. My reasoning is quite simple.
Samcro seems to run best fresh with 6 wins and a 2nd after having a brak. His only defeat after a break was on good ground in a 4 runner race where he was beaten by a fit, ex flat horse who outsped him at the business end with Sharjah who would have loved the ground well beaten. This is his first run after a good break.
Secondly, he has had to put up with small field races where a good solid pace is not guaranteed. When he has run in a race of double-figure runners he has won. Today there are enough runners to ensure a good, solid pace.
Added to this the opposition does not look strong at all. I know Itchy Feet won a Grade 1 last time but he started at 7s and the warm favourite pulled up.
This has to be his day. Good luck all.

Samcro.

Faugheen and Itchy Feet are described as 'not fluent' too many times for my liking, which leaves Samcro and Mister Fisher as the bets IMO.  Plumping for the latter as current odds at 8.2 look very fair and he seems to be improving.

What a race,Faugheen's jumping cost him alright, nothing disastrous mistake wise but not slick enough through the race.
Report Dr Crippen March 12, 2020 1:40 PM GMT
He'd could have better, was it the second last he hit or the last?
Report portmanpark March 12, 2020 1:42 PM GMT
punchest....just lost ground at so many fences but what an horse to get so close jumping like that
Report punchestown March 12, 2020 1:43 PM GMT
Hindsight portmanpark but Townend should really made more use of it as it gets every yard of that trip and more.
Report portmanpark March 12, 2020 1:46 PM GMT
melon probably cost him the race
Report punchestown March 12, 2020 1:47 PM GMT
No need for Townend to weave around in the straight like that either, cost valuable ground.
Report brigust1 March 12, 2020 2:08 PM GMT
Hi Dr Crippen, Yes I think he would have won easily but for clouting the 2nd last. It just made him think a bit.
