Frankie will school these jockeys until he's 90.
Report dave1357 February 22, 2020 3:21 PM GMT
not really imo he was aware of what was going on and stayed pretty close to the winner - his horse just didn't quicken like the winner.
Report wondersobright February 22, 2020 3:22 PM GMT
completely outridden
Report stridingedge February 22, 2020 3:24 PM GMT
Perhaps if your horse is likely to be keen it needs a race with more likely pace?
Report 11kv February 22, 2020 3:32 PM GMT
Exerted more energy horse and rider trying to rein it back....

Frankies horse is a much bigger athletic animal - if both fit he would win most races between them
Report GEORGE.B February 22, 2020 4:03 PM GMT
Horse had been out to Doha in December and run a big race, then 3 weeks ago put in a huge effort to break the course record. Maybe he just ran flat today?
Report impossible123 February 22, 2020 4:18 PM GMT
I think the pace and a lack in conviction by De Souza were to blame; Bangkok did not even beat the horse (eventual 2nd) he beat by over 4l previously and broke the track record. Will Dubai Warrior and Bangkok both go for the Easter Classic on 10th April?; 10/11 vs 3/1.
Report shoodacoodadidnt February 22, 2020 4:24 PM GMT
Frankie in another league - no question
Report stridingedge February 22, 2020 4:39 PM GMT
Swap jocks same result in that race IMO
Report stridingedge February 22, 2020 4:39 PM GMT
Both quality
Report impossible123 February 22, 2020 4:44 PM GMT
The winner will not run if it rains - he does not like soft or loose ground, according to Gosden. But, both he and Bangkok will return in Easter; the latter will run here instead of going to Dubai now, said Balding, who added Dettori rode a very good race and we couldn't catch him; 3/1 for a guaranteed run, possibly a different tactic employed on the day against a possible non-runner Dubai Warrior (if it rains).
Report flushgordon1 February 22, 2020 5:01 PM GMT
It's still on synthetic on finals day.
Report impossible123 February 22, 2020 10:18 PM GMT
Synthetic or not rain can still make a significant impact on the going otherwise Gosden would not have said that.
Report driver2 February 23, 2020 7:53 AM GMT
Frankie rode a great race on the winner, but you're an idiot if you believe that sds was at fault. My advice is give it up if you can't read a race any better. As stridingedge says, swap jocks same result
Report Charlton2005 February 23, 2020 8:09 AM GMT
looked like the fav wasn't settled properly, so didn't run his race.
Report sageform February 23, 2020 9:44 AM GMT
I am a fan of SDS on the whole but it did seem that Bangkok remembered him yesterday in a negative way. He raced much more sweetly for Hornby. It could be a case of being better first time out but if he was mine I would try Hornby again. SDS gave Group One Power a very good ride.
Report impossible123 February 23, 2020 9:58 AM GMT
No one is disputing the result - the best horse won. Nevertheless, Bangkok could not even beat Court House for 2nd, a horse he beat by an easy 4l the previous time - that says a lot about his run, surely.

I hope Bangkok could be a bit more competitive in April when they meet again (hopefully) or at least beat Court House.
Report sageform February 23, 2020 10:41 AM GMT
Exactly. He beat Court House easily last time.
Report charbar67 February 23, 2020 11:47 AM GMT
Swap the jockeys, same result???? The assumption being that Dettori given the same situation would ride the same impotent, reactive ride
Report betting_masta February 23, 2020 11:59 AM GMT
if you swapped the jockeys i'd say it would have been closer. same horse would have won but not by such a margin. ergo dettori > de sousa. that balding horse is awfully overrated though so he's not beating that horse over that distance on that surface no matter who the jock is

utter nonsense.  I watched the race again to check my initial impression. DeSousa was aware of the slow pace and took closer order and then asked his mount to quicken at almost the same time as Dettori and the horse didn't quicken like the winner.

Report betting_masta February 23, 2020 12:26 PM GMT
the fact bangkok couldn't even beat court house tells you how good the horse is . i think the winner is very good and may play a part in a big race this year . bangkok isn't gonna win anything major based on that race
Report driver2 February 24, 2020 3:12 AM GMT
dave1357 and if you swapped the jockeys what would have happened?
Report driver2 February 24, 2020 3:19 AM GMT
Sorry Dave, misunderstood the postings, it was charbar67 that I should have taken issue with and he's  obviously talking through his pocket
Report sageform February 24, 2020 8:41 AM GMT
I still think that Bangkok could still be top class but he clearly has an issue with de Sousa. He sweated up and never really travelled like he did in his previous race.
Report charbar67 February 25, 2020 2:11 PM GMT
Driver2 i don’t bet odds on , don’t put enough on to make it worth it, just trying to make the point imho, that given the same conditions, Dettori would’ve rode Bangkok differently to De Sousa and maybe it would’ve made a difference and maybe it wouldn’t but at least connections would have learned something from the race other than we need a pacemaker
