Some of you may have seen on other media (Twitter & Facebook) that a former regular contributor on here passed away on 3rd February 2020 after fighting the terrible, destructive disease of cancer for the past year. He was taken from us far too young at only 48 and is mourned by his wife and extensive family.
Those who were fortunate enough to meet him, or subscribed to his blogs, would have been impressed by his knowledge of horse racing, his dad was a former on-course bookie who regularly attended meetings, Cheltenham being their favourite venue.
Dave wrote what he saw when reviewing races, praising the good and exposing the poor, in most cases with wit and humour. Many professional racing observers have congratulated him on his writings and a funeral announcement was included in Saturday's Racing Post thanks to Lee Mottershead.
He pinpointed many future winners (when allowed to run on their merits) and many of us have benefited from his observations and predictions.
He was a great asset to the original Dirty Rodent private member site, we named him Timex Dave because he was so precise with his assessments of races.
His last posts were only days before he passed away on the updated Rodent WhatsApp Group.
If any want to attend his funeral, the details are as follows:
12:00 Thursday 20th February at Streetly Crematorium with a wake afterwards at Bloxwich Golf Club.
Donations to St Giles Hospice.
As a parting farewell, Dave's Dad, Tony, has asked for the funeral cortege to stop at Megabet betting shop in Pelsall (Dave's local) for 10 minutes so that he can put on one last bet in memory of his son ... enough time for it to be "referred to trader" ... any selections running next Thursday from the whizz kids on here would be greatly appreciated and included in bookie busting multis.

That is very sad news. Sincere condolences to his family and friends and you kenny losing a close friend. RIP Mr Taylor.
I can't remember exactly what his handle on here was, but he posted up around 2008 (maybe before) and onwards when this place was really buzzing, before Twitter really took off. Perhaps others can remember.

cant say I knew much about the man but I had heard of him and that's a nice post kenny , he sounded like a decent and interesting guy so its sad news for many I would say

Shame that his website seems to have been taken down, so cannot access his blogs.
He was an aspiring racing journalist, in the style of Alistair Down (Fat AL) in his heyday.
Funny, witty and very much to the point, he didn't hold back when he had spotted a dodgy ride, but as we know only too well, most of the journos on RP are gagged for fear of upsetting their sponsors and not allowed to mention, criticize or highlight malpractice that abounds within all racing in UK & Ireland... No-one wants to upset the status quo, especially the BHA with their cosy relationships with certain owners, trainers, jockeys and bookmakers... don't think I have to spell it out.
We need people like Dave Taylor, who are prepared to speak their mind, hopefully, there remains posters on here who will carry on his good work.

@kennythebetboy -- it might be a more suitable tribute to collate and publish online somewhere (here?) a few of DT's best pieces or greatest hits, rather than to add to Unibet's profits (not that I'd seek to discourage that, if it is what the family wants -- as well as, not instead of). RIP.
I was privileged to get to know David back in around 2014, and he was one of those people you couldn't talk to enough. I noticed on a reply earlier that his old blogs couldn't be found, well they should be here....

just spent a while reading some of his work and in all honesty I could spend all day reading them , a million times more interesting than any published work and shows more courage and honesty than all of the tv/press pundits put together
very funny at times , very observant and incredibly straight talking , I very much look forward to reading more although also saddened that racing world has lost something special and rare
