Yes, a few had a go at Betfair Customer Services on Twitter but the more that do they might actually realise there is an issue (but dont hold your breath)
Report thebootman February 7, 2020 7:13 PM GMT
RTV have identified the issue adding the 500ms delay, which was caused by a change in premises. They will add a fix over the weekend and it should be back to normal on Monday.

If they have identified the issue that has lost 500ms from the uk pics then surely they can also fix the irish lv pics
to have them the same speeds as their uk ones???

Hopefully the fix is for both
Report dustybin February 8, 2020 1:29 PM GMT
Out of interest thebootman, what are the ATR/SIS LV providers saying regarding the inevitable flash turn off?
Have they mentioned an alternative?
Maybe they might be pressured into copying the RTV future model?
Report john92 February 8, 2020 1:52 PM GMT
As is stands they go back to slow pics on Feb 29th unless the supplier extends the flash licence. I have asked betfair if that has happened and will report back.

Report thebootman February 8, 2020 2:05 PM GMT
James - I assume it will just revert to how it was previously for now.

Dusty - I'm not aware of ATR having anything in place beyond their Flash extension date, but yes pressure will be applied for them to provide a long term resolution.
Report jamesdean February 8, 2020 2:18 PM GMT
The irish are 500mc slow, like what the uk ones are now. It will be the same issue one would think.
Whatever it is they do to fix uk one this weekend, it must be worth asking them to do the same for the irish, remembering
they have had the irish 500ms faster than they are now for a couple of meetings (the curragh were fast iirc) so we know
the infrastructure is already there and has been in use until they slowed them again.

Great work as per bootman, keep at them!

Update from RTV. After the second race at Chelmsford on Tuesday the stream became destabilised, so no option but to roll the speed back. They have a team looking into it and will get it sorted.

All I would add is please keep asking Betfair why the service has slowed. After all they are paying for a service that at the moment we are not receiving. They are the ones that can exert the most pressure to get things resolved quickly. That is unlikely to happen if only a few people complain.

short termist ideology took as much as they could, how can bf assume liquidity will improve when all that happens is that over time more and more users become PC payers and ultimately end up in the HR net if they win.

No concessions, nothing, They said they were looking at the PC mechanism...12 years it's been here
Report dustybin February 18, 2020 5:08 PM GMT
BF in their wisom plucked a figure from the sky thinking 250,000 net whould be a large enough threshold to reasonably assume somebody has taken enough out the exchange to warrent them turning the screw.

Well that might have looked reasonable in year 1
But after 12 years the threshold remains the same which means anyone taking an equivalent 21k a year out is crushed at 40%
Why would they bother?
Report Jack Bauer '24' February 18, 2020 5:11 PM GMT
Exactly, PC destroyed liquidity across many markets. Specials markets used to trade millions, when PC was introduced they slowly started dying.

Report dustybin February 18, 2020 5:20 PM GMT
Actually its even worse now I think
Because they wrangled it to be lifetime of the account it isnt from the start of PC in 2008 is it?
So its 20 years not 12....meaning 12,500 is enough to get crushed for 40%

Report Willie Shafter. February 18, 2020 11:14 PM GMT
who is going to bet pre race at reduced odds?
Report pablo-fanque February 18, 2020 11:41 PM GMT
you and others have probably asked the same questions i have and have received the same answers ever since PC was introduced

from what i remember , betfair say that PC payers take too much . my point was that a PC payer may be a market maker , a backer, or layer or trader , they all provide liquidity for others to bet how they want to , trade/back/lay/back to lay , whatever . by dissuading them to use betfair, liquidity goes down and then others ( whether they pay PC or not ) may not be able to do what they do so they quit, which in turn reduces liquidity further .

there will be no changes even if liquidity dies completely imo
Report ProSniper February 19, 2020 9:04 AM GMT
Zero-sum game. Perfectly designed to eat itself to the bone.

New meat discouraged to participate by becoming "woke" about what they're up against with the fast pic thieves + shytie tinpot, low-res, stuttering streams. Only a small fraction of the market is winners because they have the determination and discipline to make it there(with resources and/or inclination to improve on the mickey mouse default state) the ones who would still operate and find a way(even if blindfolded and snookered) are the most hardcore of them all..but extremely rare. The ill-disciplined or straight up carefree punters/thrill chasers aren't even being offered basic qualities to satisfy their thirst. And it's only those types in mass who can bring a better flow of liquid.

As said a million times before, bf are simply making damn sure they get a good chunk of the money that's vanishing from their pool - much of which is extracted by absurd means. That being said, if the company can't control or be held accountable for underhanded methods of its players, they at least have excuse for taxing it/them. But as far as what they R in control of and what they can offer customers..old&new, they're clearly not looking to elevate the product beyond its current lacklustre standards. The sb launch and the bookie takeover only increased its lack of interest in doing so.
Report dustybin February 19, 2020 9:56 AM GMT
Quite right PS
I have, and never will have a bet on the sports book, but from my estimation they can’t offer anything like a realistic IR product through that without the requirement of the exchange and 1 click software and a public who are willing to take the risk they arn’t and offer prices.

The idea that betfair exchange is anything other than a tech firm as far as the exchange is concerned is absurd, they don’t put any money up and yet cull the whole market.

Shafty, sure, but if there's not enough money coming in from -EV betters, +EV betters can only fight over what's on offer. Since the latter is clinical and makes far fewer mistakes, liquidity is noticeably poor and remains scarce in desired areas.
Report ProSniper February 19, 2020 12:48 PM GMT
If PaddyPowerBetfair found fousands of new customers ready to play, what do you think they'd choose to do with them..

a) Guide them into the exchange markets where people like Shafty and dusty are laying in wait to brutalize and rinse their accounts(to which the host would receive part of)

b) Encourage them into their tight ass sb where they can rinse them all and keep the lot?

This was always likely to be the trouble once they sold out and handed control back to the bookie.

Only a pure exchange with zero conflict and no other agenda to push can offer a better alternative. But where are they? And if they did pop up, how easy would they find it to round up and pull in a sufficient customer base to satisfy all concerned? That challenge is so immense it borders on impossible. This is evidenced by the fact we've never ever seen a true challenger to the original exchange founder, even when that founder's service has become so poor and unstable, it remains KING and laughs at all others trying to replicate.
Report dustybin February 19, 2020 1:49 PM GMT
Except bf also are concerned by the demise of the exchange and have tried a couple of pretty poor ideas to try and encourage it, so they too understand that people trading risk on the exchange has value, something they have no appetite for themselves. I also as suggested can't see an IR product without the exchange.

They have even started to advertise it.
Report ProSniper February 19, 2020 2:28 PM GMT
That's just some half-assed attempts to keep enough in the pool to ensure winners can scrape by. They obv don't want rid completely. The only way we'll see their feeble ideas cranked up a notch is if the winners can no longer win, or end up playing against themselves(bouncing variance off each other) or the time and effort spent on winning X is no longer worth it. When the whinging turns to leaving/left.
Report Willie Shafter. February 19, 2020 2:49 PM GMT
