how much did they charge before ive not been to royal meeting , i wouldn't pay that to sit on a table either

how much is a chair ?
Report kevo January 20, 2020 11:28 PM GMT
I would imagine that the only person that would pay that money to sit at a table at the Royal Ascot meeting wouldn't have the slightest interest in watching any racing.
Report Hibore January 20, 2020 11:38 PM GMT
Ascot have put up the cost for guests in the Royal Enclosure to £180 per day from £120 only a few years ago. Members are paying half that if they go multiple days.
Report GAZO January 21, 2020 7:01 AM GMT
there will soon be two entrance fee's,one to get in and one to go into the grandstand to watch the racing
Report geoff m January 21, 2020 8:32 AM GMT

I've worked at Royal Ascot many times, but I wouldn't go there now, if you paid me!

Watch it on TV, the best seat in the house!

Musselburgh charge £180 for a picnic table for 6 and thats for all Summer meetings (Admission tickets must be purchased separately)
can anybody beat that.
Report Dr Crippen January 21, 2020 10:05 AM GMT
The high prices do keep the plebs at bay.
Report intheknow January 21, 2020 10:13 AM GMT
I think it's £30 to reserve a picnic table at Mussy + the individual entrance fee
Report roggrain January 21, 2020 10:25 AM GMT
Quite right Dr Crippen. But the poor darlings in the Royal Enclosure still have to put up with those AWWWful nouveau riche!
Report roggrain January 21, 2020 10:28 AM GMT
By the way,if Newcastle (pronounced by the locals as 'Newcassle') is 'Newcarrstle' in Eton English, why isn't Royal Ascot

pronounced 'Royal Arscot'?

I'm the same as TheNorfolkMafia, I was at Royal Ascot for my 50th birthday and treated the entire family to a day out, there were 15 of us. It cost an absolute fortune and despite ending up marginally in front it was an endurance test and not one I would care to repeat any time soon personally.
Report mymumsfinethankyou January 21, 2020 12:25 PM GMT
how much do they charge to get back out
Report dambuster January 21, 2020 3:39 PM GMT
I've been lucky enough to get invites to a box the last 5 years, not every day but 3 or 4, if i had a free ticket for the grandstand, i wouldn't go.

The cost of admission to the Royal Enclosure is £125 for 1 day, £294 for a 3 day badge and £450 for all 5 days. That's a bargain by any measure, provided of course you're in possession of - and don't mind the discomfort of - a Victorian pallbearer's outfit.

By way of reply to roggrain's query, this joke from a bygone era may or may not help:

A magnificently frocked, hatted and parasol bearing lady was just about to board the Ascot train at Waterloo when she was jostled off the platform and landed on her derriere.
Old fashioned porters descended onto the line to her aid; one politely enquired her destination - ‘Ascutt Madam?’ - ‘No I fancy not, but I expect it’ll be badly bruised’ was her dignified response.

I was going back to my car last year in the car park, at the back of a coach was a drunken old bird having a pony while the bloke with her stood there pissed out of he's head holding her drink...Claaassss Cry

Are you a member Cash ?

I suddenly become very popular around the end of January when the RE guest application comes through the post. Friday has always been and always will be boys day out Cool
Report Hibore January 23, 2020 7:11 PM GMT
Cash - the costs you mention are members only. The guests are £180 per day...which is over the top imho.
Report mrcombustible January 23, 2020 7:57 PM GMT
Guests £120 if age 18-25

Car Park 7 £50 a day
Report Fourgoldcups January 23, 2020 9:02 PM GMT
Cash, you are correct in terms of value for RE. £90 pd is fantastic. Hilbore is correct too. £180 way too much but I'll bet they sell the whole lot. Generally the first thing sold out in Re now is the Saturday. Only Tuesday restricted to RE members only these days.
Report Cash Is King January 23, 2020 9:47 PM GMT
Ascot are certainly increasing their prices above and beyond what “inflation” might justify but Ascot is a business and market forces are working in their favour.

Car parking charges have increased significantly but I still think that Royal Enclosure membership offers good value. Yes there’s a substantial premium to be paid for a Royal Enclosure guest badge but it only costs £80 one-time fee to become a Royal Enclosure member so regular attendees would only need to go twice to make membership the better option.
