there's nothing you can do about it says the ultra shrewd Mark Howard. I can't think of anything at all you could do. Nothing. At6 all. Well, unless you count running it at 1pm or so. But that would be insane wouldn't it.

It is farcical when they take out a final line of fences. It just becomes a flat race. Frodon probably wasn't at his best but had no chance.
They could run the race earlier and/or start the whole meeting earlier.

Just watched it , that was farcical. Forest Bihan a better five furlong sprinter than the others at the weights......good to know for next year's Ayr Gold Cup.

it is open to abuse as well. Nearly every professional sportsman is prone to gamesmanship ("cheating" in our language). What is to stop a jockey on a rubbish jumper complaining about (marginal)low sun to gain an advantage over a solid jumping rival. I have never known an occasion when either the racecourse or a fellow jockey objects to the request to remove fences. In these litigious days, nobody would want it down to them. Effectively a request from one jockey is probably enough to guarantee fences being omitted. You may be tempted for a £45k pot. That is why these races ought to be run earlier.
