last wednesday i had my account hacked and money was bet in their casino, when i noticed the money was missing i reported it to them and they saidthat they would replace my money, but if it happened again i would lose my money.
i was not happy so i informed them that i wanted to make an official complaint, and that as it was clear that it was a fault at their end, i wanted them to inform the police.
they said that they have their own fraud department and they would contact me within 24 to 72 hours.
one week later i have had no money returned, no one from betfair has contacted me about my complaint, and their fraud department hasnt contacted me either.
this has got to be a total shambles of a company, with some of the worst customer service it is possible to get. any other company that had theft occuring would be seriously worried about their customers and their reputation, Betfair dont appear to care less

Several years ago my a/c was hacked at 2am - at the time I had 10k in it, they blew it all on a tennis match. Not quite sure how it benefited the hacker. Betfair didn't want to know - my fault for not using 2 stage authentication, which I didn't even know about at the time. Needless to say I have been using 2 stage auth ever since and had no problems, could do with the 10k back tho!

As betfair haven't contacted you for a week I assume you have called them to ask why. Is so what is their excuse?

Like all monopolies, they couldn't give a fcuk.

Two things I do.

1 - enable 2FA.   If you have anything more than pocket money in your account, you really should do this.

2 - self-exclude from every product you don't play - in my case everything other than Exchange and Sportsbook.

@horusisis "as it was clear that it was a fault at their end" - how did you determine that?

I would assume that if they picked an obscure tennis match to blow your 10k,then a crazy bid or offer would be submitted & immediately smashed by the waiting hacker on another a/c.that being the case would imagine it would be fairly easy for Betfair to recognise who had benefitted.

3) If you use betfair (or anything else with financial details) on a public wifi network then change your password when you get home.
4) No- one does the above but it's the most likely way they 'hack' your account!!

Happened to me about a year ago and money wa

was refunded fully. i think it was 800 quid or so. They walked me through 2 stage authentication and also requested i change my email address. I believe the money was blown on their casino which i have never used. So i guess as a company they lost no money. would be different if it was wagered on the exchange i guess which would mean they would be liable.

Don't think the system will permit this Roida, as it might give potential crooks the possibility of using the information.
I say that 'cos I tried to post an issue I had with Betfair about limiting liabilities and a message came up asking if I really wanted
to post my reply into a public domain as this form is not secure.
I thought about it and declined.
Be careful out there.

Yeh I lost over 10k the same way & again I hadn't got the 2 stage so they fcuked me over.

What the old nanny said.

I get why someone would steal your money to pass to an associate using the Exchange or Poker, but betting it on Casino/Arcade/Sportsbook just gives it to Betfair - which does at least mean you have a realistic chance of getting it back.

@spyker - 2FA avoids the need for 3 & 4, since knowing your username and password is no longer sufficient to access your account.

Is it that BF don't promote 2FA enough?  I can't understand why people would choose to have 10k in an account protected by no more than username and password if they knew.

They said the money was matched by several (what appeared to be genuine) users and they couldn't see any fraudulent pattern to it. They also checked to IP address and it belonged to some company in Berkshire. My guess is the hacker faked the IP address or took over the remote computer. Maybe they were clever enough to have several accounts to match against.

I think it was not long after 2 stage Auth came out and I didn't know about it. Yes I was pretty pissed off at the time
