Awful incident. One of the worst I've ever seen on a racecourse.

By:
What an awful advert for racing that was - right at the finish in front of everybody - RIP Gentlemen.

the cameras briefly showed the horse behind the screens. There was blood next to him. Truely awful

i've gone numb...one of my fav's, RIP old boy, awful scenes.

Yes minardi, couldn't have happened at a worse place. I imagine that will put off those new to racing who went for the first time.
Terrible incident, condolences to all involved. |

Did he trip or did he break down, anyone know, very sad a genuine game horse.
By:
Perhaps they should consider abandoning the rest of the card, the last 2 races are poor anyway, and a lot of people would be traumatised having watched that right in front of them esp the kids!
By:
yep that would be the best thing to do
By:
That is just desperately sad news, I missed the race and I'm so glad I did. I would not have wanted to see what happened to poor Gentleman

Similar incident occurred right in front of the stands at Huntingdon on an Easter Bank Holiday Monday a few years ago . Turns my stomach now just thinking about it

might have clipped the winner but looked like his front legs just buckled under him SR

Been one of my favs on the AW this season and was running a great race, paid the ultimate price for our entertainment unfortunately.

By:
That's what i thought dealer, this games a bugger sometimes.
By:
Stoute hotpot just taken out the next, probably totally unrelated but i wonder how fast the track is running
By:
not saying either that that is connected to Gentlemen's accident
By:
Was terrible to see, condolences to connections.
However you can't go cancelling the rest of a card because a horse broke down regardless of how poor the remaining races are. Some of those trainers and connections will have travelled all day to get here, same for the punters/bookies/staff etc |
By:
i don't think they clipped i thought he broke down at the front and went over, may have broken the other leg in the fall

Didn't see it ,Jockey ok ?

Race 3 - 6:30pm
THE IRISH LOTTO AT totesport.com HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) ATLETICO (IRE) unseated Gina Mangan on the way to start and cantered loose for a short time. Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and Doctor at the start, both were deemed fit to race. Nicola Currie, the rider of GENTLEMEN, had fallen approaching the finish line. After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no other horse or rider was involved and it was caused by GENTLEMEN sustaining an injury and hampering both MOUNTAIN RESCUE (IRE) and ATLETICO (IRE), unseating Luke Morris and Gina Mangan respectively, after the line. RIP The Clerk of Scales reported that Luke Morris, the rider of MOUNTAIN RESCUE (IRE), unplaced, had been unable to weigh in owing to being unseated after the line and gelding still being loose. The Stewards were satisfied that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race and confirmed the placing of MOUNTAIN RESCUE (IRE). |

I understand this was a bad incident, but why is there no replays available of the race anywhere?
