If you drank it Deptford you would not be buying it at Supermarkets like those.They have reduced the quality and experience to the equivelant of Budget airlines.No fault to you btw but most of the cost is TAX.I have been buying tax free since the early 80s and have some fine ones laid up but the reality is that Italy has always produced at least an equivelant and still does.
Champagne is now no more than a region and been so for 3 decades in terms of sparkling wine.....i.e It is just a name.

Sorry Deptford that was patronising,the truth is though what I said is true.The irony of it is that my best friend would castigate me for buying it at the same price as Italian sparkling and then ask for a couple of cases for his friends.Snobbery did not end in the UK.lol

Champagne is a gimmick for special occasions albeit I'll be having some on Sunday. If you can get a nice wine you like, far better value imo.......or steal your friends cocktails in which I specialise.
Sale at Debenhams soon. Do they sell Champers or has fat Ash drunk the lot.
Prosecco is cheaper. English Sparkling Wine tastes better.

cuevee napa is decent value , champagne is just sparkling wine with a posh name
Bollinger would be my choice and at £26 a bottle would be around the same price as around 20 years ago.
strongbow is utter filth. it bears no more relation to cider than babycham to shampain. even its makers acknowledge this. there are some excellent real ciders around nowadays that are delicious. trendy types call them artisan, but whatever they are there has been a transformation recently in the production of beer and cider. long overdue. anyone still consuming cooking lager or strongbow is an idiot.
top class fizz is a delight but it is too expensive and aus/nz and some spanish equivalents are great value by comparison.

At 50p a can in England it's hard to argue with that. I used to buy a couple of flagons of Westons cider but sadly because of the alcohol content it's more or less unavailable in Scotland. (the still stuff)

was about 14 or so in the 70s and me and some mates used to club together and but a couple of quarts of old english cider most nights after school anyway under a tower block on the estate where we lived were pram sheds ,we knocked 3 walls down and made 3 into one put and " furnished it with old scatter cusions and carpets we had found and sat drinking the cider getting pished ,anyway when anyone wanted a pish they would use the empty cider bottles and put the lids back on and put them on the roof outside of the pram shed ,one night a gang off much older lads known bullies and druggies came to the shed and started kicking the doors wanting to get in ,anyway we all kept quiet but could hear what they were saying and hoped they would fook off ,after a while one of them said wow look they have left a bottle of cider on the roof and he took a swig of it and spat it out and went fookin beserk and kicked fook out the doors for about 15 mins threatning to kill us all if he saw us again that pish was about 3 weeks old

A nice bottle of Veuve just opened, to wash down my Friday supper of Wing Of Skate n Chips, lovely.
Not many chip holes selling Skate these days Dept. Veuve over rated and over here.!

I dont think Deptford means Veuve Cliquot, which is a very reasonable if not great Champagne. He means Veuve du Vernay which is a very ordinary French Sparkling wine made in bulk by a huge conglomerate from juice from hundreds of different vineyards.
If you want cheap fizz try Italian Pignoletto. Loads of it about in most Supermarkets. Cheaper and far better than virtually all Prosecco.

Tenner for the fish n chips, Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2008 is one of my fav drinks, Asda Louvel Fontaine is decent at the price if you want something cheaper, offer at mo is £53 for 6

Why don't the English Sparkling Wine vineyards sell quarter-bottles, like Champagne and Prosecco?
Ram - It is just not economically viable to do so. The same UK tax system applies (which makes UK Sparkling Wine "expensive") and the fixed costs of bottle, label, cork, crown cap, packaging are not much different to a full size bottle.

Mumm NV was very good value at £20 bottle at Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised, it was little better than Harpic 15 years ago!

Jackboo - In short you can't. Try Pignoletto, available in lots of supermarkets and superior to nearly all Prosecco.
Remember sofia was on a simplistic wind up. No Champagne connoisseur would limit themselves to Krug alone.
