Another bookmaker is to disappear from the punting landscape after it was announced 188Bet has ceased trading in Britain and Ireland.
Following hot on the heels of BetBright's sale to 888, the website of 188Bet.co.uk was, in effect, closed down on Tuesday morning except for a page informing customers that the business, officially known as Annatar Limited, has with immediate effect stopped taking bets in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. Explaining the move, which does not apply to 188Bet's operations in other territories, the company stated simply: "This is a commercial decision in a very competitive marketplace." The statement also made clear Annatar is solvent and able to meet all financial obligations, with customer funds ring-fenced and safe. However, with similarities to the demise of BetBright, some punters with live ante-post bets will have their wagers voided. All pending single bets for events occurring up to the end of June 30 will be honoured. Those placed for events that take place after that time will be nullified with stakes returned. Only the components of multiple bets that conclude before the end of June 30 will be honoured. Anyone with funds in a 188Bet account must withdraw money by August 30. The 188Bet name had become increasingly familiar due to sponsorship of some high-profile races, including the Chester Cup, Solario Stakes and September Stakes, while it also signed up as an Authorised Betting Partner during the sport's stand-off with bookmakers. Get rid of all the chaff to ensure only the genuine ones remain. I wonder if this decision is associated with the probable impending impact on bookies honouring their bets post acceptance, and facilitating withdrawals; no more cubby-holes to hide behind to prevent payment eg id verification, etc. Still too many around for a stagnate pool of customers/punters if the present business strategy does not change eg unfounded/unjustified restrictions and/or unwillingness to take bets.
The £64k question is...who will be next? And there will be many more.....believe you me. |

they have closed all accounts with less £1 in even thou you have outstanding ante post bets, so you can't even log in and see them
surely many will have ante post bets still running coming towards the end of the football season you have to go back on live chat after the event for them to send you your money can't even remember all my bets |

It is hardly surprising the new operators can't make it pay.
Who on earth signs up with a new online bookmaker? Not the normal punters these firms hope to attract; they are happy enough with their existing accounts. It's the sharks and arbers who have been banned by the other firms. It is no wonder they can't make a profit, or not as much of a profit as they'd hoped, especially as they will have a lot of unused accounts where people signed up for any initial offer but have not used it since, which to the accountants looking at their spreadsheets will falsely depress the profit per account figures even further. |

So they are voiding ante-post bets finishing after June. Just like Betbright although not quite as bad. It's alright to do that according to the GC.

Welcher Ricci and the plebs behind 188 have between them probably killed stone dead the ante post betting markets for all the internet only bookmakers. Anyone placing such a bet with them in the future should be certified.
