Had one of my best wins when Goonyella romped through the heavy ground prior to finishing fifth at Aintree.......still baffled by how he nearly won the Scottish Grand National on faster ground.

Fellow mudlarks Folsom Blue and Raz De Maree may be the only ones still going by the end.

Ms Parfois ran a belter in the Hennessey until tiring ,guessing this is the prep before Aintree.

Backing the 2 mudlarks today.

Arthurs Gift e/w. Won recently over 3m at Carlisle which is a stiff course so has stamina.

Gone for 3 outsiders ew for smallish stakes - had Regal last year so have backed it at 40's and 50's, Dell Arca and a rag in Smooth Stepper, but it's obvious American has been aimed at this race for a while and got big weight but got on at 15's last night. GL.

If Adam Wedge doesn't do his usual and fall off then Prime Venture looks interesting. Always mindful that horses that have Relko quite prominently on their dam's side just stay and stay. The last three National winners included.

Jammin Masters 25/1

This has been the plan for this horse for a couple of months....a proper plodder in heavy ground and still unexposed unlike most of the field.

Folsom Blue

Only the second time he has tried a trip this far and a grand old age of 12. Was brought down when going well in the Scottish National a few years back. He shapes as though he will improve for the trip and ran a great prep race over hurdles last time out. There is lots to like about him, although this would be his highest ever winning mark at 12 years old. Still he's shortlisted.

Ms Parfois

Improved with racing last year and trainers claims she wasn't right in the Hennessy (or maybe that was never the target) Beware the Bear was similarly well beaten and it hasn't done him too much harm. Ran Rathvinden close at Cheltenham and also finished in front of Elegant Escape at Aintree. However there is no guarantee that novices will continue to progress and I suspect she is not at her best after a break. I'll be keeping a keen eye on how she runs with the National in mind but I won't be backing her today.

Back to the Thatch

Fell at Newcastle last year when going well but before stamina became an issue, Is young, lightly raced and still open to improvement. I still have my doubts as to whether this is a suitable trip given he tends to finish races one paced rather than finishing like a train. He also pulled up in this very race last year. I'd like a bigger price to be backing him.

Milansbar

Ideal conditions for this 12 year old who was a gallant 5th in the National last year. I thought he ran a promising race last time on ground that was probably too lively for him. 5lb lower than when second last year and reunited with jockey who has a good record with him (although no longer can claim). Definitely place material and may even win.

Ballydine

Another lightly raced sort open to improvement, promising runs the last twice and as a result he's creeping up in the handicap. Acts in the conditions but is going 1 mile further than he's ever been. He shapes like a stayer but it's guesswork how far he stays until he actually tries it. He's not one that I'd lay and I would back him at the correct price.

American

Course winner from Rock the Kasbah and Crosspark which reads very well. His second at Cheltenham also reads well. Subsequently was out classed in the Gold Cup before pulling in the Hennessy for a second year in a row. First try over this marathon trip and carrying 11 stone 12lb he is going to have to be a thorough stayer to be winning here. I'm inclined to oppose him.

Chef d'Oeuvre

Improving horse who is going up the weights but fully deserves it. Great rallying performance finishing just behind the Welsh national second gives hope he may stay this far. Will act in the conditions. He's one I would want on my side at the prices.

Arthurs Gift

Another lightly raced chaser who very much shaped like a stayer at Aintree before getting well beaten over a trip that is probably too short for him at Exeter. Won well last time on a stiff track and has finishing strongly to win a hurdle race over 3 miles on the heavy. I do feel that others have stronger bare form at this stage but he's not one I'd be laying.

Dawson City

Career high mark for this ten year old but this is the first time he's faced 4m 2f on heavy ground and I very much think these conditions are absolutely ideal. Would need a career best to win but I think we will see a career best. A definite each way bet on this proven stayer.

Get On The Yager

Back down to his last winning mark but disappointed here last year when in better form. He does have some good 3 mile form on heavy ground but there are enough doubts for me to avoid him.

Raz De Maree

Ideal conditions again for this horse and ran well in the Welsh National. I can see a good performance but surely wont be winning at 14. I may shed a tear if he does.

Kilkishen

Interesting contender who usually races on good ground but has winning form on soft and had every chance when falling at the last on soft/heavy earlier on his career. Outpaced last time but he did stay and slower ground may help. Not ruled out.

Potters Corner

Stays and acts on soft, Fell the last twice when in contention and that has to be a concern. Another with a chance despite jumping concerns.

Prime Venture

Stepping up 1 mile here and nothing really in the form that is screaming at me to back it. Others have better claims.

Dell' Arca

Good effort last time but wasn't really finishing that race well enough for me to believe he will improve for the extra distance.

Jammin Masters

Shaped as though he was well worth a try over this trip when second at Ascot. That form hasn't really worked out but interesting to see how he performs none the less.

Regal Flow

Winner last year when in the form of his life. Back down to a workable mark but would have liked to have seen more life last time out (race he won last year) to be backing him today.

Smooth Stepper

Beaten easily at 4 miles in the past and nothing to suggest that changes here.

Jetstream Jack

No chance.

An interesting mix of proven stayers and those with potential. I think Dawson City is overpriced given he is a strong stayer who achieved his highest RPR last time. Stayed on strongly on soft to win over 3m 6f and should improve further for the extra 1/2 mile.

Chef D'oeure is improving with each run and ran fantastically well in a strong race last time. Finished just behind the Welsh national second and had Yala Enki (who was not disgraced in the Gold Cup) as well as subsequent winner Caroles Destrier behind him (admittedly unlucky).

The favourite is obviously very solid and Ms Parfois could potentially be a class act but I think there are enough doubts to make me look for a price.

Chef D'Ouvre for me.  In form and on the upgrade - hope he has the class for this at this stage.

I'll be at the track today - some interests today at decent prices.

1:50 Perfect Man
2:25 Scotchtown
3:00 Duarigle or Bold Plan.
3:35 Chef D'Ouvre
4:10 The Captain's Inn
4:45 Cougar's Gold
5:20 Hope's Wishes (interesting back at this trip versus horses unlikely to be suited by conditions)

Decent enough write up but you did give quite few a chance ,but looking from the outside in seems none you gave a chance to were so big a price ,it’s not rocket science is it ? Back the big prices and lay the shorties ..innit .   Tipstering is for them that had thar ballsnbrains removed at birth ,now stop being a pratting around and win some munee.
