Found it, had to google it though, they don't make it easy.

Even harder getting them to reply to emails.

Use the livechat - it's what they're geared up to use and (if it comes to it) you have a log of the conversation.

Thanks Longbridge, sorted that account query out for me re Blue Square, hadn't been used since 2013. Had actually been changed an inactive account charge until it had been zeroed. But they have very kindly reinstated my funds very quickly so a big pat on the back to Customer Services from me, done very quickly as well.

All numbers that start with 03 are charged at the same rate as standard landline numbers that start with '01' or '02'.

That's wrong. A 0330 or 0345 is the same as a standard call but 0334 is akin to phoning a 0871 number. That's why companies use them. They take a cut. I know this because because I receive paper billing from BT.

BT tell me different today and previously. I'm in the anytime plane  as stated before, they get a sleekik cut. Why would they bother changing to 0334????

0344 Numbers

The 0344 number prefix sits within the most recent group of 03  “standard landline rate numbers” that Ofcom have released. 0344 Numbers are there for governments, businesses and other organizations to use for providing a non-geolocated contact number for their company.

What are the 0344 call costs?

As with all 03 numbers, there are somespecific laws that govern what can be charged for calling a 0344 numbers.
Whilst it is techniclally possible to use a 0344 number for revenue share the amount of money you would make typically makes it unviable.
By Law, all 0344 numbers have to cost exactly the same to call as a normal landline regardless of the phone provider and device you are calling from – so the law applies to both home phones and mobiles.

With this in mind, when you call a 0344 number the phone operator must treat it in the same way as if you had called a number starting with 01 or 02.
This includes any “free minutes” the caller has or call bundles. If a call to a 01 or 02 number would be free / included in an allowance then the 0344 call must be treated exactly the same way.
This isn’t just a recommendation this is law in the UK.

If your phone package (mobile or landline) does not have any bundled minutes/ free call allowance then calls to 0344 numbers will cost the same as a 01 or 02 number. 
0344 Number Range

0344 Numbers are free to call if you have inclusive / bundled minutes within your phone package. Like all 01 and 02 numbers, calls to 0344 numbers must be included within any “free” minute packages. However, please remember that if you don’t have any free minutes then calls to 0344 numbers will be charged the same as calls to 01 and 02 numbers.

Say No To 0344

There have been many campaigns aimed at ridding the world of premium rate phone numbers. However it is unlikey that we’ll ever see a Say No To 0344 campaign.

0344 Numbers are NOT premium rate numbers, or even “lo call” numbers.
0344 Numbers are a non-geographical phone number prefix that are charged as if they were a 01 or 02 number.

If you have inclusive / free minutes with your phone package, then calls to 0344 numbers will simply be taken from this “free” allowance.

There is no reason to say no to 0344 numbers – whilst they are not freephone numbers, they are charged free (with bundled minutes) or simply charged the same as a call to 01 or 02 numbers.

I joined BT mobile about four months ago. The bloke told me that most numbers are free apart from 118 numbers, (obviously) 0870 and 0844 and one other.


Only trying to help here. Anyone want to go for the 0844 numbers....feel free....but I get charged.

The thing is sparrow I can call a 0870  number on my landline....no charge. Try phoning 0871..

You just need to check your price tariff with the deal that you are on.

sparrow, I will check tomorrow but it may be I have confused 0344 with 0844. If that is the case I'm obviously in the wrong.
