I am disappointed the stewards did not ask Fry (who was at the course) for an explanation of the horse's poor effort which was way below expectation based on its first race run in a good time behind horses with solid form. Even if he had said "I cannot explain why the horse ran poorly" this would have been better than no response. Stewards at many other courses often ask for an explanation when a hot favourite is beaten. Poor reflection on e Taunton's stewards and only emphasises the need for professional stewards at our racecourses.
