They'll be coming for us eventually. Think of all the stories about punters doing insane sums at 1000 on here, stealing from employers, fixing races, etc. Before we know it they'll be targeting us, on account of us needing to be protected for our own good.

I agree with, LHF. Its refreshing to see an honorable politician as opposed to a career politician of which the majority are.

You lot have missed the reason for the delay, which is the bookies have threatened to close the shops and axe thousands of jobs.

that is a bluff by the bookies, I don't imagine the job losses being anything like what they are saying. I doubt the cut in stakes will impact many punters, I'm sure most of those playing the machines don't stake more than £2 anyway

also the jobs that would be lost are very low paid anyway, and there are far too many betting shops these days

I'd say that Tracey Crouch didn't miss the reason for the delay in her resignation letter "Unfortunately, implementation of these changes are now being delayed until October 2019 due to commitments made by others to those with registered interests."

There are far too many betting shops on the high streets, and most of them are in existence because of fobt. As such some of them are a surplus to requirement, and a correction is long overdue; job losses is not book making specific, other industries suffer them too. But betting shops must not be in existence courtesy of fobt, the crack cocaine of gambling and a scourge to society in general. 

Betting shops could re-invent themselves and/or adapt otherwise, the miseries they are causing to society because of fobt far outweigh the probable job losses. I understand it could be tough on those affected, but it is more important to curb further miseries inflicted on society, I believe.

In her response, Theresa May contradicted Crouch, saying there had been “no delay”. She wrote that the government had “listened to those who wanted it to come into effect earlier than April 2020 and have agreed that changes should be in place within the year – by October 2019”.

Crouch is understood to have clashed with Jeremy Wright, the minister for the department for digital, culture, media and sport (DCMS), over the delay, with the sports minister insisting that April 2019 was a red line for her.

Prior to this week’s announcement, she had repeatedly said on the record that the step would be put before MPs before next week’s parliamentary recess and introduced by next April. That raised the possibility the minister had either been cut out of the decision or overruled on it.

Whatever side of the debate you are wrong, the Government have scored another spectacular own goal. What percentage of the electorate will support the bookmakers on this? 10% max? Having raised the prospect of a popular change in legislation, they now delay it under pressure from a commercial lobby. It is almost as if they want to lose an election.

money is tight now every thing is going up . if any one can put 100 on a spin , thay must be drug dealers , thay put cash in . then ask for a transfer to there bank acc and now the money is cleaned up .

Its been like that from day 1 of the FOBT'S jackboo, if you open an online account and back a couple of winners, the firms want to know everything about you, inc the last time you had a 5h1t before they let you withdraw any money out, but go in a shop ,put 5k in a machine and turn it into 4k legal money and thats ok, the drug dealers happy and the firms are happier, no questions asked .

Next time you are in take a look at the screens. Most of them cover 3/4s of the numbers...with inevitable consequences.

In regional casinos on roulette the Chinese would play every number(usually amongst themselves) with 25p chips merely for the sake of it without fully comprehending the odds of winning or losing. Also, I think it is their culture to gamble for leisure.

The bookies have only them selves to blame for loss of profits due to machine restrictions, they used to have to work and make a book on a horse race and accept bets, then then the machines came along and they all thought sod all this horse racing lark and actually taking bets !, lets just fill the shops with legalised mugging machines and tell the racing punters your not welcome .

Perhaps Teresa should ask how many staff are required to service the number of problem gamblers on FOBTS per shop.

1 member of staff to 4 machines is the likely ratio. So that's potentially 4 problem gamblers ruining theirs and others lives per lost betting shop job. The ratio is probably 10 times that, given that even the most addicted gambler cant afford to play the machines for the length of one employee's shift.

The PM stating that the limit had been brought forward from April 2020 !!!!! to a probable Oct 2019 was a big big own goal,as an intended date of 2020 was never acceptable to anyone bar the shops.This is proving to be more serious for the govmt. than they first thought.Making front page of a daily newspaper proved it.
  You wonder what pressure will be on the party when it comes to voting in the finance bill.Apparently it only needs 30 MPs to vote against it,which seems very possible.Interesting!

The bookies got too greedy and lazy. Very easy to sit back and watch all the FOBTy money pour in. Next stop will be online casinos when punters can turbo spin away thousands in ten minutes.
