Excellent news.

It was popular at Folkestone sparrow they got by there standards good attendances when they had banded racing Saturday mornings.
By:
That's one course I never visited foxy, probably because it was so hard to get to by public transport.
By:
It was great sparrow if I could have two realistic wishes in horse racing one would be to see a horse win the triple crown (colts) I did see oh so sharp, the other would be to go racing again at Folkestone.
By:
Regarding travel sparrow they had a station next to the course like uttoxeter.
By:
Quite a contrast there foxy but a decent request. Did you not see Nijinsky on TV though? I recall as a youngster my dad's favourite horse Meld complete the fillies Triple Crown.
Camelot ought to have done it but O'Brien messed it up by running the horse in the Irish Derby in atrocious conditions and was never the same again. At least he admitted his mistake afterwards. At least O'Brien attempted it as most trainers nowadays wouldn't dare attempt it with a class horse. |
By:
I might be getting mixed up with another track regarding the travelling to Folkestone.
By:
You will mean fakenham
By:
The only think I remember about Nijinsky was Colin bell had the nickname Nijinsky I was more into football back then,I do have a full length video called a horse called Nijinsky.
It was a shame about Camelot but as you say at least they tried hopefully they will again soon and who knows possibly John gosden might have one capable for next season. |

None of it was O'Briens doing sparrow. The "lads" decide and they've won that many big races they wanted to do something they've never done before and win the Triple Crown. They wanted to run in the Irish Derby to support the race, which was understandable and he did win twice the money than for the Leger. The Irish Derby shouldn't have had a lasting effect on him and it's easy to be wise after the event. The Brigadier won on atrocious ground in the St James Palace & Sussex and carried on regardless.
By:
I'm only repeating what O'Brien later said about running in the Irish Derby, adamski. The Brigadier of course was an incredible horse to win at all distances from 5 to 12 furlongs and nothing should be compared with him.
By:
Morning foxy,as you probably know Nijinsky is my fav all time horse but its worth looking at the footage of his Leger victory for the size of the crowd that day (you'd have done ok with a pitch by the 5 furlong post!)especially after our conversation the other day.

Which races at Bath are 'Banded'?
By:
The 5.10 @ catterick
By:
There aren't any. Just some run of the mill 0-60 handicaps.
By:
The one STATS mentions is nearer than any at Bath.
By:
Ok, thought Banded was the 0-50 rated bunches too
By:
The Catterick one is 0-50 but my memory of banded racing proper is that it wasn't handicaps and the hardcore stuff was limited to horses rated 45 or less. Maybe there was a wider definition.
By:
Yep, remember the races with all rated 45 or 44

I enjoyed banded meetings and I saw some horses who went on to successful career's .........I also think it gave horses who were struggling to get a run in handicaps.

True Sparrow, you never know though, Hereford looked lost but has returned.
There was a rumour recently but it depended an planning permission for houses which I think was the original problem and why they shut. |
By:
Was 0-45 (Band A)
0-40 (Band B) 0-35 (Band C) 0-30 (Band D) To the best of my knowledge no Band D races actually took place. Shame. |
