Bustards, including floricans and korhaans, are large, terrestrial birds living mainly in dry grassland areas and on the steppes of the Old World. They range in length from 40 to 150 cm (16 to 59 in). They make up the family Otididae (formerly known as Otidae)

What's the problem with that?

Wonder if they'd let you call a horse after Alan B'stard, the legendary character brilliantly played by the late Rik Myall?

The B*stard was a very good horse trained by Jack Jarvis. He won the 1930 Yorkshure Cup. He was renamed The Buzzard when exported to Stud in Australia.

.... then there was Malcolm B the Jockey. Whatever happened to him?

Forgot about both them 2 mighty mac.

Peter O'Sullevan being interviewed  By Cornelius Lysaght

BBC horse racing correspondent

"You remember, I'm sure Peter, a successful jockey of the 1970s and 80s era, Malcolm Bastard," I said.

"Of course, mi 'lad," he replied. His mind was as sharp as anything and his eyes bright right to the end.

"The story goes," I continued, "that you always called him Malcolm Bastard (as opposed to queasier colleagues who preferred Bas-tard) and one day when he was riding for the trainer Pam Sly it's said that you declared 'It's another win for the Sly-Bastard combination'.

"Is it true? It's just that I might put it in my after-dinner routine."

"Ha, ha," he said with a grin. "I like it - that's certainly one to keep going with and how flattering you thought of me." Characteristically humble as well.

Correct reynard HMC was owned by Phil Bull. But they were allowed to name one Kissinger - who bombed Asia into oblivion and got the Nobel Peace Prize for it.
