https://www.theirishfield.ie/top-french-trainer-arrested-after-drugs-search-404412/ GUY Cherel, one of France’s leading jumps trainers, has been arrested on suspicion of possessing unlicensed medicines. Based in Maisons-Laffitte, the 50-year-old Cherel has had 55 winners so far this year. In 2016 he was suspended for three months by France Galop for a doping offence involving Ranitine, a gastric ulcer treatment. Sources close to the yard say that inspectors found unauthorised painkillers on a recent inspection of the trainer’s premises. Paris-Turf reports that a pharmacist has also been arrested and both he and Cherel could be brought before a judge on Wednesday. Cherel has trained a long list of graded race winners in France. His best horses include Homme Du Jour, River Charm, Rendons Grace, Pistolet Rouge, Usual Suspects, Irish Saint, Blue Dragon and Dica De Thaix. On the flat he trained Al Namix and Califet to win stakes races before they went on to become National Hunt stallions. |

Most people suspect that its going on, nailing it is another thing Thefear...

very true, workrider. They need to offer financial incentives for info imo.

Can't see that holding up in court tbh, Chemists seem to be light years ahead..
|

By:
yes i agree - the top boys are not even concerned i don't think. They know little chance of being caught.
I still think a whistleblower (photo evidence quite easy to obtain with our phones these days) could be effective. It doesn't have to go to court just the BHA level. |
|
By:
Of course it has to go to Court TheFear, you think any trainer would just walk away , more likely to contest it all the way and that's the last thing the BHA need!.. Just look how often they have fooked up in the past. I think its sad that honest trainers are been shafted by the druggies year after year, these same trainers are just as good if not better than these crooks...

loads of doping going on. would be astonished if some of the top stables in the UK weren't doping, yet most of it gets washed under the carpet...

Out of curiosity...has there ever been a jockey caught doping?
Never hear of one of them busted for the old Ben Johnson....only ever play stuff like Charlie. I’d imagine for flat jockeys it would be difficult with the weight gain but NH jockeys would have done scope. - Also do steroids affect horses like they do humans ie shrinkage, lack of or damaged sperm, low testosterone etc etc |
|
By:
not sure about steroids but imo some horses drop dead from heart attacks due to what ever they have been given. No one looks into it and it goes down as natural causes. Plus if you can train horses more due to drugs it's bound to lead to more injuries because their legs arent built for it.

interesting thought about jockeys E.L.G

Canelo type substances more beneficial for jockeys in a very hypothetical world, not suggesting anything obviously.
Tyson Fury could singlehandly bankrupt UK Anti doping so the resources on one side of this issue compared to the other is insane at every turn. |
