When I saw the card yesterday I assumed Equilateral would be unbackable at about 1/3 so was surprised, and suspicious, when he was a general 8/13 chance this morning.
Huge drop in grade and drop back to 5f against two rivals I assumed he'd just ping out and have it sewn up shortly after half way, much like on his first run at Doncaster.

However he's not out to 5/6 on here which stinks even more - is it because Ryan Moore is on board.Laugh

Uncle,

I'm not convinced he's as good as some may think, at least not yet.

His debut run was OK but he beat rubbish and i doubt any of them are rated about mid 80's today.

Forget his 2nd run 6th/6 it was too bad to be true.

Won impressively by 8L next time out and the handicapper has jumped on him. Apart from Foxtrot Lady the field was poor, but she didn't give her true running that day (2nd run of the year). She ran off 83 then but she's improved 20 lb since.

Equilateral has ran poor twice now. I think the step back to 5f is a positive, but i wouldn't back him at odds-on.

Andrew I don’t rate him that highly either and cou,d never understand why he was favourite for the Commonwealth.

It’s more a case that today’s scenario seemed to me to suit his style so much better than his two rivals.

Hopefully, the ground is really good to firm. Rain won't help his cause.

On the Doncaster run he should bolt up. Just let him bowl along in front. If that is the kind of ride they are looking for I am not sure why they have gone to the trouble of booking Moore. It is a strange target unless they think/know he has gone backwards which probably explains the price.

On the 22 June Andrew suggested he might be another Dayjur so at that stage it wasn't a case of not rating him that highly.

I was actually pilloried for saying a month earlier that he reminded me a LITTLE of Dayjur when he won at Doncaster.

Bigfield,

VWD on your bet, you've got a great price obviously and it was a good spot. Considering the stake, you're probably going to let it ride, but a trade might be worth considering.

Visually, very impressive LTO and could be another Dayjur, or just a good sprinter that will win occassionally. If you disect the form, is it actually as good as first thought ?

Won well on debut, but it was an egg and spoon maiden at Bath. Looking at all the runners form there is only a single win before and after the race.

Forget it's 2nd run, it was eased and maybe something was amiss.

It's best run was obviously LTO, but ignoring the runner-up for a moment, there are only 2 wins from all runners before and after the race.

The bottom line is his form is based around one horse (rated 84) from one run, good that it was.

Will Ascot suit him ? York and Doncaster are flat tracks. Bath has a steady incline in the straight.

He's meeting hardened, experienced group class sprinters, a massive step up on what he's achieved so far, although he's earned the right to be entered of course.

Should he be favourite ? Not for me
Would i lay him at 5's   No
Would i lay him at 3's   Definitely

I may lay the 3TBP anyway, but i wish you good luck.

Here is the post from my lay thread .......

........ and lay Equilateral (2.42) in the 3TBP market
