Look at value of races in comparison to York shocking Donnie is an after - thought and as usual no terrestrial Wednesday that is why Legends is so prominent better quality at Ponte on a Monday afternoon and probably more excitement too. For a premier course it is sad doesn't improve year on year where as York goes from strength to strength.

10 or 15 years ago i felt this meeting was at least the equal of york and to be honest enjoyed going to the leger meeting more than the ebor meeting in recent years i tend only to go one day to doncaster and this year dont plan to go at all, perhaps a start to improve the fixture would be to drop it to three days along of course with more prize money.

foxy and importantly is a much better running track by far unbelievable this poor turn - out as drum says we might be down to five or less a race first day except of course the Legends.
By:
the other 3 days are all very good racing, they should move the first day to a different place in the fixture list. 3 days is enough for a big meeting like this

without question its a better running track liberator always has been, from a punting point of view the way the races were framed at doncaster suited me much more than york.
as a day out i use to love doncaster but since they built the awful new stand i dont even enjoy that as much as york anymore. |

more pollyfiller than galway, fri , sat more than enough

it would be fine with 3 days move the scarborough stakes to thursday to add to the may hill and the park hill,2 maidens and 2 handicaps and away we go.

or 1 maiden and a sales race.
By:
all other top meetings have roughly equal quality on each day, to me it's just a regular fixture tagged onto the start of the Leger Meeting
By:
the portland use to be the feature race on the wednesday it was always a decent days racing.
By:
in fact on the opening day in 2001 the day after 9/11 we had the portland the park hill and a 200,000 sales race.

Agree that the prize money should go up and the Leger card goes out with a wimper, couple of 20k races and an Arab race, don't think the card on Wednesday is too bad, that conditions race never gets any runners as they don't anywhere else either,i see Equilateral skips the Scarborough stakes to run in a 3 runner condition race tomorrow for 9.5k.
Great race planning a day before the Scarborough. |

By:
that conditions race at leicester ribero got 14 runners in 2001 .
By:
Just had a look foxy,5 200/1 shots,in the days when they got appearance money obviously.
By:
well spotted i had not noticed that.
By:
It reminded me of those races, remember a classified at York when I stood one for crazy money, just looked it up same year when the October meeting at York was 3 days,it was the Thursday-Time for the clan it was called sp 500/1.18 runners and the last 8 home varied fron 200-500/1.Wainright had 2,as did Bastiman and GP Kelly, surprisingly no Alan Berry.

That said Saturday as usual will be absolutely heaving and whatever runs will be a magnificent day out. Donnie need a decent sponsor like Sky Bet for these three days on telly and a big rethink.
By:
102 runners at Catterick today.
By:
been 1 day too many for quite a few years now & savage levels of prize money as has been pointed out

Ground has softened. Inclined to leave the card alone. Couple of soft ground horses in the 4.05 but the market has found them. The opening two races should carry a health warning. On pedigree and performance you are struggling find soft ground horses. Consequently, the favourite in the first is ridiculously short. Case of whether he will be less affected by conditions than the others.
