Astronaught.

Definitely given a not today ride. Dropped in trip, held up, brought ride, hands and heels late progress, but not asked to close down first three at all.

Shaped on debut like it wants a mile.

Another run over 6f to follow.

One to note in a mile handicap once it has a mark.

you do talk a good game Dom...shocking when it comes to the betting but for the novices looking in on a ad hoc basis, many would think you have the game by the absolute b***s

Pablo, he moved up easily into 4th, then instead of maintaining a run, he took it in behind horses and only rode it hands and heels showing it the stick, not even giving one smack. I never said it wasn't trying, but he certainly wasn't going all out to get a place over an inadequate trip, which had he kept it out deep and got stuck into it, it most likely could have.

from what i saw, he pulls it out 2.5 - 3 furlongs out to get a clear run and he is definitely scrubbing away asking the horse to pick up .

if he was given a "not today ride" , he could easily have gone down the inside and just not got a run but given the impression he was trying.

He wasn't scrubbing, he was hands and heels. James can ride a lot stronger than that.

I didn't say it wasn't trying, I said it was given a kind ride for another day (ie, not today ride), they dropped it back from 7f to 6f, having been always outpaced on debut, it was always outpaced today. Horse wont win over 6f. I was merely pointing it will be a horse worth people making a note of, as when it runs under it's true trip it could end up being nicely handicapped.

Look at the race in 12 months, I am sure Astronaught will be the highest rated of all those that ran in it.

i have just watched it on ATR reply

when i click on "watch race finish" , straight away looking at James doyle ,  i just see a jockey in the drive position , head down scrubbing along trying to "get there" to win , gives it 1 good crack of the whip  . 1/2 a furlong out knows he isn't getting there but it's in no way a non trier or not today ride

imo
