In days of yore, every country track would be anticipating its biggest crowd of the year on a bank holiday.
But in these enlightened times, sod racegoers, it's all about subsidies and our lords and masters at the bookmakers have figured out that no-one can bet on more than a handful of meetings. Oh, and pop concerts after racing but that's a different kettle of worms. |
