Seems to have come back to form against Irish horses. The Doncaster Meeting and Irish Champion Festival in two weeks' time will tell us more.

just a number of average horses this year, nothing to do with in form or out of form. You can put listed / group 3 horses in group 1's and they will be well beaten/ You can put them in the right class and they will win, it's not really rocket science.

I yield to no one in my admiration at what Aidan has achieved .
I do wonder though why sometimes he seems to persist in overfacing some horses -running them in two or three classes above their demonstrated ability level. Recent examples would be Zabriskie , Washington DC and Deauville-and especially Actress. It's not that they act as pacemakers or that they could nick a place and some status and prizemoney. They are taken abroad to run around at the back of the field in many cases. What can be the actual point ? |

In the case of fillies it would be to try and get black type (1-2-3 in listed or better) or Group Black type (g1,2,3 1-2-3) as it can increase the breeding value of any filly. In regards to the colts and geldings it's probably ones likely to be sold, which will enhance their rating and entice foreign buyers. |

if you wanted a horse laid out for a specific race mjk and Obrien probably wouldn't be in your top 5 trainers

Rhododendron ran sh1te in The Nassau! And Saxon Warrior was no better in the Juddmonte as he was further back to Roaring Lion than he was in The Eclipse despite having a longer breather.
With Poets Word scratched from The Irish Champion Stakes Roaring Lion will deliver another drubbing to Saxon Warrior if the ground is no worse than good, I firmly believe. Similarly, Aplha Centauri, to any filly in The Matron Stakes - a walkover for her without a doubt, all being well. |

I would be interested to see Laurens back over a mile against Alpha Centauri myself.
Rhododendren pulled up injured in her last run, so chances are something hasn't been right for a while. Saxon Warrior at York races on the wrong part of the track for me, and I don't think he has a trip. I'm also not sure a tight turning track like Leopardstown will play into the hands of Roaring Lion, and suspect he will go for the GB Champions Stakes, rather than Irish. |

Rhododendron never looked the same horse post the nose bleed in France; her run in The Nassau was to good to be true. As dor Roaring Lion (RL) Gosden had indicated The Irish Champion Stakes for him, if ground was no worse than good to soft. And Saxon Warrior did not stay the 10f (to me); he might still run in The Irish Champion given the lack of quality opposition, but unlikely for the English equivalent at Ascot, but more likely The QE2 against Alpha Centauri if she's not America bound, I believe.

If he dropped Saxon back to a mile after the derby hed have 3 more Group 1s to his name.

Yep, he'd have won the Irish 2000G; St James's; Sussex.
