Again we have a horse who sometimes is a bit better than most of the others, hyped to the extent that the new people to the sport are probably convinced it cannot lose.
It does, as so many do, and the public is turned away again.
imho ITV show a complete lack of understanding of the vagaries of form and a horses ability to run to a consistent mark.
They insist on endless verbal and visual cover of one horse over all others, even in the live race feed.
Furthermore Mark Chapman is the most over the top and misleading 'expert' that terrestrial tv has ever had the idiocy to employ.
This cannot be good for the future of racing in terms of enticing new people to develop a long terminterest in our wonderful sport.
Mad.

won Abbaye (Grp 1) & King George (Grp 2) by 4 lengths, a huge winning margin by 5f standards

Re ITV bigging up one horse.

It was the same in the Derby, Saxon Warrior this that and the other, going to be the greatest horse ever etc etc.

Then when it lost it was all about why it lost, going too firm/too soft, distance too far, pace too fast/slow.

Just cover all the field equally before the race and then you can have the w***fest if the talking horse wins.

At least they never put up Blenheim Palace as the potential GOAT.

Punters have to learn the hard way. If a horse is 1.8 it is a long way from being a cert. Good job they weren't covering the last at Wolves yesterday if you think what they say counts for anything.

So sad that most of you want to pick up on the fact that i accidently typed mark instead of matt rather than address the issue at hand (apart from lovegod, well done sir).

Duncan - sorry mate but your comment ignores all the sh*te runs that Battash proves capable of and therefore the fact that it should never have been hyped up in that way.

I believe this is a real issue.....the camerawork and commentaries are biased entirely towards what ITV producers want to happen and want their presenters to focus on, irrespective of the reality that it normally wont turn out the way they want it to.
This cannot be good for encouraging people to bet (the lifeblood of the sport) and is very annoying to those of us that have been around long enough to know that, even at the top end, 'wonder' horses get beaten on a regular basis (Frankel excepted!) and, in the case of those 2yo they get so excited about, turn out to be very ordinary in the majority of cases.
