Doyle far, far superior. Job swap should happen imo

Different result if you switch the jockeys. Of course the 'experts' say the jockeys don't matter.

Swap the jockeys and the fav wins by 3 or 4 lengths...

In my opinion neither can be trusted on a favourite.

I think Buick is slightly better.

I mean when did Buick ever think about leaving Racing to become a Plumber ffs.Plain

Doyle got to be right up there with his return on favs last couple of years.

Both very very good imho.

Yesterday in France, Buick rode the field to sleep on a lesser fancied Appleby horse.

I personally felt the Goodwood form of the fav today was suspect, with Dee Ex Bee never really travelling and not progressing and Sun Maiden running no race at all, so what the form was worth was hard to know. Old Persian beat a solid field at Ascot and every reason to feel the run came too quickly for him at the Curragh. He however way you look at it had equal if not better form than Cross Counter coming into the race.

doyle is about +17 (on BSPs) from his last 1000 rides on a fav so that is absolute bollox

that's winners above expectation, not P/L

Horses can have better form coming into the race, but that's not an excuse when IRS clear the other one should have won. As for yesterday's race, absolutely nothing to do with this race.

I didn't think Cross Counter done anything wrong and raced up the best part of the track for me on the rail, just felt Old Persian had a bit more grit where it mattered.

We'll agree to disagree. I'd back the second if they met again though.

That was like when they come over at Brighton. If you don't get there first, you're fooked!
By:

he got the favoured rail & the horse did not have the foot to pick up (shorter trip than ascot)

pocket talk if you are blaming doyle there imo
By:

When: 22 Aug 18 15:42
Except the horse who got there first went too early and stopped dead into 5th in the final furlong.

He never got the rail.

The only difference there with a clear run would have been less of a margin but winner did that easily.

Benbatl raced up the rail from 2f to the line, once he got past Thunder Snow.

Oh dear, reaching for the pocket talk desperation line. Winner probably the best horse but did Doyle make a mess of things? Obviously, to anyone with an unbiased opinion.

Doyle had a perfect pitch from the start. When they turned for home he didn't expect the leaders to go all the way across to the rail. By the time he did realise it was a few seconds too late. Gap gone. Race over.

Robbed of a great race between the two imo.

Winner probably the best horse
with the wfa & over 1m 2f...100% the best horse imo

winner has won 3l pulling up

no other jockey riding the 2nd would have overturned the result

York suits the winner much better than Poets & back at Ascot it would be a lot closer. But you still couldn't be certain who would come out on top seeing as RL is still improving.

differentdrum you did state earlier that you wouldn't trust Doyle on a fav so that's far from unbiased Wink

And there's no evidence that supports your fears on that score as I (and wonders) posted earlier, he is right up there in terms of returns from riding favs against what the market has expected.

He's not going to ride everything perfectly every race.
By:
wondersobright
When: 22 Aug 18 15:54
correct SE

aside from the fact I think that ride today was fine, you don't judge jockeys on 1 ride anyway

that's why I pulled up the stats his last 1000 rides on favs +17 compared to market expectation

Brilliant ride if you ask me Excited surely Ballydoyle must be watching that thinking why are we employing Ryan (I couldn’t be less interested if I tried) Moore....
By:

When: 23 Aug 18 15:47
agree

you could tell he got the pace right the way the race unfolded in the last 2f...so many cheap yards gained
