Sack Champman; replace Chamberlin with Bell as main presenter; bring in Cunningham and Blake as race analysts.

Only watch the races now and interviews with trainers before and after races to glean info for future races.

Report Northofperth August 25, 2018 6:29 PM BST
There are far too many folk featuring in the ITV racing coverage . Most of them contribute very little , and there is NO justification for today's presence of Sir A.P. McCoy . Also , in the past , telly coverage of racing only ever commented on racegoers fashion during Royal Ascot . We have fashion highlighted at Glorious Goodwood and York , as well as Ascot . I hope this reverts to a once a year item .

Absolutely correct TheBaron.

Why don't they show the head on after a race? They only seem to do so after a Stewards enquiry has been announced. Also, why isn't the replay shown straight after the race instead of having to wait for what seems ages until the jockey has been interviewed?
Report StillLearning August 28, 2018 9:17 AM BST
agree with that MJK, one thing they have started doing better recently is putting the result up straight after the finish line. I remember when they first started they would go to ad breaks before showing the result and sp's which used to do my swede in.
Report domino14 August 28, 2018 9:21 AM BST
McGrath, Big Mac, Thompson, McNeil, Down, Brough & Tanya had their faults but they were a far superior presenting team than this bunch.

Simon McNeil over Ed any day
Big Mac over Chapman any day
Down Over weaver as well
Brough over Luke
Thompson leave on the shelf but keep Francesca
McGrath not needed
Tanya not needed.

Simon McNeil to be main presenter with Down and Brough as co presenters, with Big Mac in the ring, and Francesca doing interviews and paddock views, would be a far better set up.

Oh and scrap the fashion bloke altogether.

Report impossible123 August 29, 2018 1:33 PM BST
Hello Ed, are you considering to graciously leave your position as the main presenter of ITV Racing? Your professionalism and presenting skill will be most welcomed, and appreciated elsewhere; horse racing is a sport outside your realm of presenting, may I add.
Report asparagus August 29, 2018 1:56 PM BST
Does make me laugh all this nostalgic nonsense. People wanting Mcrririck back, the biggest dinosaur in racing,  and now the betting ring is obsolete with no relevance whatsoever. Down and Scott might be decent journalists but as television broadcasters they bring very little to the table. We used to have to put up with Tanya Stevenson on channel 4 and Thompson. Itv are a different league to the old Channel 4 programme. And whilst a wider tv audience for racing may not be out there they do have to try and find it and appeal to it. There is RUK and ATR if you don't want to watch it.

They're all media poodles for the bookmaking industry. When they start questioning the bolloxs their reps spout then they might get a bit of respect. McGrath makes me sick on that Skybet advert.
Report impossible123 August 29, 2018 2:30 PM BST
Is it asking too much for a main presenter of a specialist sport on terrestrial tv to be closely associated and/or knowledgeable of the sport? I'd have thought so. Chapman was ejected from "Dancing on Ice" without a moment's notice, why?

Imagine an able-bodied person presenting and/or organising an event and facilities for disable-bodied athletes. Or an able-bodied person running an organisation specifically targeting disable-bodied individuals. It is just not on!

On numerous occasions Chamberlin looked very much "like a fish out of water". I believe Chamnerlin would not have resorted to regularly and repeated "back-slapping" his fellow ITV Racing team members on their contributions (for non-racing antics).
Report asparagus August 29, 2018 2:49 PM BST
Chamberlin may not come from a racing background but he's grown up loving the sport and would know just as much about racing as most of the old channel 4 mob. He loves racing and is a natural broadcaster. That makes him a great front man for racing. Hoiles is infinitely better than the previous commentators. Holt is ok but Graham Goode was appalling. Racing has moved on and that ITV team overall do a very good job. A big improvement on what came before.
Report impossible123 August 29, 2018 4:02 PM BST
I agree, Hoiles is excellent as a commentator and presenter, but the majority of the ITV Racing team including its main presenter Chamberlin have been found wanting, and not terrestrial tv material; Chamberlin is often found wanting when it comes to thinking-on-the-spot and q&a without resorting to heaping congrats to his co-presenters of direct/indirect sponsors. On the other hand Olly is a true professional and an extremely knowledgeable and able horse racing presenter; if he was a racehorse I'd back him over Chamberlin for future horse racing races. As a horse racing presenter he'd be my choice before Chamberlin any time, any day.

Nothing personal with Chamberlin, but he makes me put the transmission on mute whenever he comes on and/or watch only the racing bit. Also, I find him too "friendly" with his interviewees, but condescending to ITV Racing viewers like myself. I understand the programme is sponsored by a bookie, but that does not mean one cannot criticise constructively and objectively; there are many better horse racing presenters than Chamberlin, I firmly believe.
Report RothmanMike August 29, 2018 4:30 PM BST
A bigger improvement would be if none of them were there.
Just show paddock shots, going down to start, and then the race.
Report impossible123 August 29, 2018 6:32 PM BST
Would that not be great, and any software that can deliver that service? I'm willing to pay for it too. In the old days there were video recorders that could skip and not record adverts. Maybe independent and unattached presenters **** reimbursed (accordingly) by remuneration from viewers based on performance ie intelligent and relevant questioning and info gathering conducive to the future running plan/s of the horse/s.

Sorry, Chamberlin is no horse racing presenter.
Report impossible123 August 29, 2018 6:34 PM BST
