Very badly worded, unclear and could mean about 500 things to me!
Report longbridge August 22, 2018 1:30 PM BST
Seemed pretty clear to me.

"Minimum £500 lay to lose guarantee for all Class 1 and Class 2 races taking place in UK or Ireland"

The BF Sportsbook will lay your bet to lose (ie for you to win) up to £500 on those races.
Report Llamedos August 22, 2018 1:32 PM BST
I would guess it's Sportsbook, they are hardly likely to guarantee you £500 payout at 10.00 if there is only £2.00 on offer at say 10.00 etc,on the exchange
Report Wicklow August 22, 2018 1:42 PM BST
I presumed it was some sportsbook gash promo, but if they are going to stick a notice up it should be clear. It would have been nice to see a proper notice or announcement about the second big downtime in a week.
Report dave1357 August 22, 2018 2:00 PM BST
you can pretty much bet £500 liability on the exchange for all the class 1/2 races today.  So if they gaf about the exchange they would point that out rather than promoting the sportsbook.
Report sparrow August 22, 2018 2:04 PM BST
Thing is dave a lot on here want to bet 8 hours or so before the off.
Report dave1357 August 22, 2018 4:16 PM BST
have a look at the york races tommorow morning then - you can already get a £500 liability bet on a fair number.
Report kavvie August 22, 2018 4:24 PM BST
as far as i can see its a con.its an unguaranteed bet to lose 500 at the price they say which will be the lowest available price.ie it will generally be say 2/1 and they will offer 7/4.

Thought I'd share this live chat from earlier, you'd hope a help desk would be aware of it......or at least know the basic difference between an exchange and a sportsbook!

I am unable to bet on horseracing at York despite your new guarantee to lay bets to lose £500. My max bet still says 0. Can this be changed please, thanks. Read

Liam at 11:35, Aug 22:

Due to ordinary business practice, your account has been limited for our Sportsbook product. I would like to reinforce that restricting fixed odds betting accounts is ‘industry standard’, and you may come across this practice with other bookmakers. These decisions are largely taken due to internal cost control on what is effectively a risk based product and any bookmaker will naturally be cautious about this. We are in a luxurious position to invite you to use our betting exchange with no such restrictions to your bets, given that it operates using a different model, but also provides the added benefit of choice, value and control to you.
You at 11:40, Aug 22:
"This offer is available to all customers" I accept restrictions on other things (despite these being ridiculous to a small stakes customer like me) but this is a new initiative started on Monday. Lay any win bet to lose up to £500, please check again Read

I then rang up and spoke to someone who I think thought I was talking double dutch as didn't have a clue what I was talking about.  She spoke to a 'manager' and came back and said it was for the exchange!!  After I'd finished laughing I asked to be passed on to the 'manager' who in the 10 seconds that had passed had remarkably become unavailable.  Someone will ring me back ....... that was noon....and still waiting

It's a known fact there is a wide horse racing knowledge gulf between online advisors and/or "managers". For instance, I was told my account was in negative balance because of an antepost non-runner which I'd laid, and the mount concerned was the identical amount I'd withdrawn. Another asked what sport the selection I'd requested even though I'd given the name of the race and venue eg The Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.

It took about 12 online "chats" to sort out the 1st predicament over a period of 8 days.

It would seem they are advertising a 'guarantee' to all customers but haven't lifted the restrictions from small winning clients on their Sportsbook. Their advertising is misleading and could well attract a fine from the ASA.

Microsoft, Google, Bloomberg, Yahoo and Amazaon have all patented betting applications in the last two years. Do bf get people out of university as good as these organisations? What can they offer that a blockchain company (like a future CentreBet) can't? They certainly don't have an old-fashioned bookmaker's proprietary pricing skills.

If I were a major owner in PaddyPowerBetfair I would be very worried about the company's future-proofing.

Foxy - you wouldn't be getting that guarantee the night before

- The guarantee is available to all customers domiciled in the UK or Ireland.
- The guarantee will be available from 10:00am each day there are qualifying races.
- The limit is £500 per customer per selection.
- Betfair reserves the right to exclude customers who, we believe, are executing trades using automated systems or software.
- The guarantee applies to win bets only.
Report foxy August 23, 2018 7:15 AM BST
thanks magic/gazo i wasnt aware of that even so 94 pence ew is pretty poor.

Report Magic__Daps August 23, 2018 7:32 AM BST
94p equals £15 takeout. So if you fancy a 3/1 shot I imagine you will get a huge five whole pounds on...

I tried to do a combi tricast the other day on pp and got offered 16p.

Rather than close you down though they report all these accounts as live customers to their shareholders. And the BHA actually wonder why people are leaving to bet on other sports!

Had my phone call this morning, basically same conversation as yesterday.  Max bet 0 on sportsbook so promo doesn't apply, however, I contacted a friend of mine who is also max bet 0 on all sportsbook stuff who can bet on the york races today to win 500, so I have been lied to this morning or they just don't understand the situation.  The sportsbook team will email me a response at some stage.

I do fit the terms, in UK, not using automated stuff, so not excluded because of that.

I know I can just bet elsewhere but it's a principle thing.  The lack of knowledge in customer services has shocked me.

They cannot lose with this offer surely, win only bets, after 10am, mature exchange markets on races offered.  It makes no sense to turn people away.

Willie, I had to ease back on punting as you were winning all of my money!!  i think my last forum posts were on Eurovision about 3 years ago!
Report Magic__Daps August 23, 2018 11:03 AM BST
Billy - I am restricted on the Sportsbook like many on here. First race Stratford I am allowed £2.78 on the fav, but on all the York races I can bet to takeout £500 (on every one I have added to betslip and tried to place a bet of a grand so the maximum shows up in red).

So regardless of all of these chats, have you actually tried placing a bet on the Sportsbook on a race after 10am???

Add Flawless Jewel in the first and let us know if it says £50 max
Report billy onions August 23, 2018 11:23 AM BST

Just tested on Sportsbook for anyone who doesn't know just type an increased stake, click in a gap instead of the stake and max bet will appear, works here surprisingly Surprised
Report DenzilPenberthy August 23, 2018 12:11 PM BST
Just tried a trixie £4 max so seemingly just the singles.
Another thing that Sportsbook and others do is for e.g if you back horses in singles they tie in the liabilities for multis so you can get F all on them if you max your singles liability.
