You don't get demoted when you beat a horse 1/2L unless you have done a manoeuvre of which constitutes dangerous riding.

If it's careless riding, you still have had to have made an manoeuvre or failed to correct your horse within given time.

A horse can get demoted if the gap between horses is very narrow for a careless riding offence, but for a reversal when beaten as far as the 3rd was by the 2nd, the interference has to be classed as dangerous.
