were they top price on oddschecker for all 4 selections?
Report hulk23 • August 21, 2018 9:06 AM BST
it's all about what you're betting and the prices you're taking.  if you're beating here it's totally irrelevant where they finish, they could all finish tailed off and you'll still get an important account information email.
Report domino14 • August 21, 2018 9:21 AM BST
If you bet 4 horses, all say 5/1 morning price and were backed by the right people and went off say 2/1 or shorter each, it wouldn't matter to them you lost, it would be they would think you would have connection and privy to information which is going to mean in the long run the market is in your favour and they wont want to lay you.

I backed a horse on a new account last week. £100 deposit, first bet matched. Had £100 win on a horse at 14/1 I knew some friends owned and fancied. Went into 11/2 quickly and was 7/2 when a non runner because owners hadn't got on.

The next morning I got an email telling my account was now closed and my £100 had been returned to my card.

I didn't even have a completed bet !

This was with a small little firm that I hadn't heard of, but thought the offer was a good one.
Report hulk23 • August 21, 2018 9:24 AM BST
£100 at 14's with a small firm, possibly any firm, would have raised a few eyebrows even before the price started to collapse ...

I can never understand why people continually put themselves through all this aggravation as there can be only one outcome.
Report Magic__Daps • August 21, 2018 10:09 AM BST
sparrow - you seem to always pop up on these threads with the same comments, the bottom line is people try and bet with the bookies because they are happy with the price the bookie is offering, and there is no liquidity on here whatsoever unless you bet at the off. Many people don't bet at the off for various reasons.

The issue is a bookie offers a price anyone should be able to take it to a fair sum (not saying anyone should be getting a grand on early at 8/1). Also if a bookie surely goes top price it is surely to attract custom - then anyone who takes it are marked for being "shrewd"!! The only business that seems to be clueless on how to run as a service that they are offering. They are restricting plenty of mug punters as nobody is given a fair crack anymore, and people wonder why the sport is in the gutter and no new punters want anything to do with it - that is where I will agree with you, no new people will get involved in horse racing knowing they will not be able to get a fair bet on sooner or later.

Regarding Blacktype, I had an email the other day stating no promotions etc, I have never took one since I opened the account and didn't even know they had any promos!!
Report hulk23 • August 21, 2018 10:41 AM BST
blacktype are the same as the rest, very much mugs only.  if you didn't receive the email yesterday morning from them regarding BOG you need to ask yourself why ...
Report pixie • August 21, 2018 10:56 AM BST
The strange thing about Black Type is the only advertising costs they incurred to start with was to go on Oddschecker, so they only really attracted odds sensitive customers - the sort that the bookies don't really want! I'm not convinced how valid a business strategy that is.
Report Magic__Daps • August 21, 2018 11:08 AM BST
Their business strategy is to lay just under whatever the price is on here, when it changes here it changes with them.

As you do as well of course.

People wanting to bet many hours before the off and marking the bookies card are ruining the markets. That is the reason bookmakers introduced early markets and it works just fine for them thanks to those punters.
Report Magic__Daps • August 21, 2018 11:22 AM BST
Yes I am, because it affects thousands of punters and future potential punters. You seem to think nobody has the need for a bookmaker and can just knock them on the head but carry on punting on here - which is impossible to most punters.

Try and get something on early on a decent price on here and a bot jumps in front with £2, cancel your bet and the £2 disappears as well. The liquidity is shocking, hence why most people need to use a bookmaker to try and get an actual bet on. I am not sure why that is so hard to understand.

Sparrow - if they’re closing the accounts of those who take the stand out, wrong, prices ( and we know they are) who is left to mark their cards?
Report DIE LINKE • August 21, 2018 11:24 AM BST
There's a word going round for Redarna today and just £1,865 matched has taken it from 6.8 to 5.0. Price on here was often lower than the books and at no point was there a chance to get a decent bet on here without being chased further down in price. That's why we continue with the bookies.
Report Magic__Daps • August 21, 2018 11:28 AM BST
Employ decent compilers then and take their view then rather than having some accountants that are clueless. If they accepted a few winners and layed a book they may even win a lot more money due to their turnover going up - you know like a bookmaker should do.

They do not even need to take any bets for them to have their card marked, as soon as it is under on here for a fiver then watch the all blue on oddschecker, it's laughable as they haven't even taken a bean. Always remember a friend had a horse that was going to be announced as a NR about an hour before the off. It was 10/1 with the books and he stuck up 5k on here at 4/1. Most of the books were 3/1 from 10/1 within a minute, nobody had a single bet with them whatsoever. You even had people jumping in front of the lump to get on it!!

There are always others ready to take their place even that same person with a new account. All some people ever talk about is getting their bets on 8 hours before the off and expressing surprise when the exchange layers aren't interested at 9am.
Report DIE LINKE • August 21, 2018 1:09 PM BST
Redarna now 4.8 to back on here as opposed to 4/1 with the books.
Report sparrow • August 21, 2018 1:12 PM BST
So you can get bets on with the books then?
Report DIE LINKE • August 21, 2018 1:21 PM BST
down to the marginals.

I got restricted to £8 on a 14/1 shot, I emailed and asked them what happened to their guarantee "lay to lose £500" and had no explanation for the guarantee, but did have the reply:

Our traders are happy with your current limits, please note that overnight limits are always lower.

I hope this answers your question(s) however if there is anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us.

A bit more digging found this article on them which basically states they have now changed into exactly the same as the rest of them.

“Black Type was launched in late August 2016 to service a clear gap in the UK market with an odds focussed and customer friendly approach. Black Type’s goal was to prove that it was possible to build a brand by investing in a bespoke price driven strategy without the expensive and one off marketing campaigns employed by the majority of existing and new market entrants, a lot of whom are now, more so than ever, over reliant on commoditized price feeds and managed services.

Black Type’s ethos remains to offer good prices, fair limits and varied betting opportunities to customers via an easy to use interface. Black Type currently provides horse racing, greyhounds, football and sports (pre-match and in-play) casino and virtual betting via website, mobile / tablet and a native IOS and a soon to be launched Android app to UK customers only.

When Black Type launched there was a misconception that we were a niche horse racing brand but it was always the intention to develop a full sportsbook which adopted the same principles to the racing of offering Black Type (‘stand out’) prices. Anyone who has observed our prices on Oddschecker over the past year across a variety of sports including football, cricket, snooker, darts and boxing will see we have been true to our word, regularly betting to far more competitive margins than industry standard.

With a growing customer base of regular, satisfied customers 2017-18 has proven to be a transformational year for Black Type as we have moved out of the ‘start-up phase’ and recently completed a round of investment to allow us to consolidate our position as the UK’s leading price focussed bookmaker.

Black Type attracted a lot of attention for initially offering a ‘bet to win’ guarantees but like any business we have evolved over time. The main brand message is now all about Black Type always offering value which will be actively promoting this summer on social media and via sponsorship of Ripon racecourse for the 2018 season. The bet to win guarantee was in place for well over a year and many of our customers, including ‘winning accounts’ still enjoy this concession and are laid bets to win far in excess of the £500. Indeed, we would be confident that Black Type compare very favourably within the industry when it comes to laying bets in size.

Yes, some customers did have the concession removed and have restrictions placed on their account which was largely down to the nature of their betting patterns and attempts to ‘exploit the system’. In the vast majority of cases they were contacted by members of our trading team who observe bets in ‘real time’ and advised that their account was under scrutiny and should they choose to offer more genuine business they would not have restrictions imposed. At other bookmakers, accounts would have been automatically closed or severely restricted without any communication and as you can see from some of the responses you have quoted, we do still try to allow customers to get what we deem a fair bet.

Our stance on ‘arbers’ was clear from the outset and those who exclusively use the exchanges to pick their bets can not really complain if they are not laid bets to the same size as someone who makes independent selections. It is a similar story with those who exclusively follow tipsters or look to take advantage of promotional offers. Their patterns are obvious and it very apparent they have no intention of providing genuine business.

Again, followers of tipsters were contacted by our team and advised how they could operate their accounts to fair limits. It really is a case of if the customer ‘plays fair with us we will be fair with them’ and consequently those who decided that a Black Type account was worth having are still able to follow tipsters like Hugh Taylor and Pricewise alongside backing the selections they have picked themselves.

To conclude and clarify Black Type’s business model is more like an ‘old school’ bookmaker and we are committed to offering market leading prices, wherever it is feasible, and laying a bet on high profile events to differentiate from industry standard pricing and over restrictive customer management. Black Type regularly reward loyal customers and have successfully introduced a Free Bet Club, and other promotions including Acca Cash Bonus, over the past 12 months where customers earn weekly free bets and bonuses.

The World Cup will headline a great summer of sport supported by the major racing festivals at Epsom, Royal Ascot, Newmarket, Glorious Goodwood and York so customers wanting to enjoy a premium service, where they will consistently get the best prices on front end market selections, are more than welcome to judge Black Type on their own individual experiences and are reminded Black Type will always be synonymous with value.”
Report Davy Jones • September 11, 2018 1:38 PM BST
They started off with no frills - no BOG, no free bets, no casino/games etc and they also bet to ridiculous tight margins and actively welcomed arbers in a number of statements.

As usual that model failed or they just did it for PR because as mentioned they are now no different to the rest.

Shame it would have been good to have used these guys as a model to champion to the big beasts in the industry.

‘plays fair with us we will be fair with them’

what a sad state of affairs the bookmaking industry is in at the moment .

they put up odds ,but if you would like to take them odds, you may be restricted or have your account closed

why dont they just start a crowdfunding page of "please send us money and you will get nothing in return" , would probably achieve the same thing
Report shady69 • September 11, 2018 1:58 PM BST
None of them are no different to the rest, just use the exchange ...

same as the rest means no USP.  so no point, be gone soon.  bye bye blackie ...
