named after Artists.

I`ll start the ball rolling.

GIACOMETTI
Ran in the famous Charles St George colours, trained by Capt. Ryan Price and usually ridden by Tony Murray and Lester Piggott. Unbeaten in 3 runs as a 2-y-o winning the Gimcrack. One of the few horses to be placed in all 3 races for the Triple Crown. 2nd in 2000, 3rd in Derby and 2nd in Leger. Finished the season with an impressive win in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket. Ran twice at four. 2nd to Rymer in Brigadier Gerard Stakes and 3rd in Price of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot. Retired to Stud and stood at Gainesway Farm in America.

Ah Ah - It is Yeat that is the problem. What on earth is Yeat, it is not even a racehorse. It means very little, but the simple introduction of an s will allow you to get away with yeast.

Great post Glasgow - him of the wet moonlit yorkshire scenes.
Report blackbarn • August 19, 2018 11:24 PM BST
So Yeat isnt the problem but **** offends the rules. A simple movement of the s to convert to yeast is allowed.  Will the addition of an apostrophe to produce **** be allowed. Perhaps not. Tell you what I will try yeatts with two t's just for fun

Unbeaten, ill-fated Kneller was another of Charles St George's.
Report blackbarn • August 19, 2018 11:29 PM BST
This is lunacy - Why cant I say **** as written, or **** in capitals or **** with an apostrophe between the t and s even though this is a ridiculous circumvention or not as the case may be. I will ring in the morning and let you know.

Claude Monet deserves a mention, owned by Daniel Wildenstein trained by Henry Cecil won the 84 Heathorn stakes and the Dante stakes before weakening in the Derby at the 2f mark won by Secreto in a photo from El Gran Senor. Was from the 1st crop of American Triple Crown winner Affirmed. Seem to recall there was a decent hurdler of the same name trained by David Gandolfo.
Which also leads us to the great Grey chaser Monets Garden who was a great jumper especially around Aintree where his victories included beating Kauto Star in the Old Roan Chase a race he won 3 times.
Won 17 out of 32 starts.
Report stewarts rise • August 20, 2018 8:45 AM BST

Yes dealer, saw it win the Lingfield Derby Trial, thought it was the real deal. Think that horse prompted the fallout between Wildenstein and Walwyn.

Another one of my favourites was Vincent, named after van Gogh, who I think ran in the famous Daniel Prenn colours, Black, Black and Green hooped sleeves, Green cap.

and of course there was Gainsborough who won the Triple Crown

Henry Candy had a horse called Jan Ekels, that I remember backing in nurseries years ago, and there was a sprinter called Franz Hals in the 60s, though I can't recall who trained it. More recently there's been a Frans Hals, though he was low grade.

Stubbs II was a good hurdler. He carried 11-7 in what was probably the best ever running of the Schweppes Hurdle in 1968, won by Persian War with 11-13.

Stubbs was 8th in the weights in a field of 34 declared runners. Sempervivum was top weight with 12-2. Other runners in the race included Major Rose, Hill House, Even Keel, Spanish Steps, Celtic Gold, Supermaster, Indamelia and Specify.
Report ged • August 20, 2018 9:20 PM BST
...he nearly came down at the 4th last in that Schweppes, and did well to finish 4th behind Persian War, Major Rose and Sempervivum.
Report ged • August 20, 2018 9:31 PM BST
...a fortnight before that Schweppes, Stubbs had beaten Persian War a neck at Kempton in a 27-runner handicap in receipt of 7 lbs. Persian War was 1 lb better off at Newbury.
Report themightymac • August 21, 2018 3:11 AM BST
Some great stalwarts in that Schweppes field ged. Was Major Rose owned by Des O`Connor at some time?
Report ged • August 21, 2018 9:20 AM BST
Don't think so, mac. Major Rose was one of 4 Cesarewitch winners that Price trained; another was Utrillo, named after a French painter, who was actually born in Montmartre.

Major Rose was twice placed in Champion Hurdles; Sempervivum once so. Kirriemuir won one, and was 3rd in one. Celtic Gold was the best hurdler WA Stephenson ever trained.

Des O'Connor owned Bermondsey, who won over hurdles and fences for him I think. It ran in Charlottown's Derby as a 3yo, but for a different owner.
Report ged • August 21, 2018 9:26 AM BST
...I left out Kirriemuir from the that Schweppes field - also Black Justice, who was a top class hurdler, set to carry a pound more than Persian War. He was also placed in a Champion Hurdle (he finished 5th in that Schweppes, and was hampered when Stubbs blundered at the 4th last).
