Anyone know what that is about? Let me guess Bruce and Alan will replace them with 17yo's who saw their first race last week.

‏ @ThomasKerrRP

Sad to say goodbye today to two of the very best at the RP, @horsenggodfrey and @surfnturfRP. Outstanding journalists, great guys and always excellent company. It's been a pleasure to work alongside you both. See you down the pub

The Boy Scout will probably be off on another of his worldwide Jamborees.

It's bad news I think, onlooker. There's not many who work there who could/would stand up to Millington or Byrne but those two i think would. They just seem to be bringing through naive kids who they can mould into whatever it is they want. Like yer man Kerr. And "Maddy".

What's their stance on betting restrictions or have they not encountered this carpetted issue yet?
Report Ramruma August 17, 2018 9:46 PM BST
They are replacing old timers on high wages with kids on low wages (or sometimes interns on no wages). That said, I think this is voluntary redundancy -- I don't know but vaguely recall they were looking for volunteers earlier in the year.

Get rid of its editor Mr Millington; he is too aligned to the bookies who are his paymasters (indirectly), and well past his use by date. Most inept editor in the history of The Racing Post, period!

@ribero1's Daily Mail piece in full, by the miracle of copy-and-paste from the web site:

Racing to the bottom
The trouble at doomed trade newspaper Racing Post doesn’t just extend to angering Bjorn Nielsen, owner of super stayer Stradivarius, by putting a picture of the wrong horse — Crystal Ocean — on their front page when previewing Stradivarius’s £1million bonus prize race at York last week.

There is also growing speculation that the struggling publication will end up as a betting comparison website. And it hasn’t gone unnoticed that a hateful leadership regime have swerved leaving parties for long-time employees who have recently lost their jobs in a redundancy process.

Report clayfield1 August 31, 2018 11:29 AM BST
The paper is going down the pan because they charge £2.90 a day, most of the sales now are betting shops they don't care about Joe Blog's the punter. I went in Tindles newsagents in Newmarket about 3 years ago they had a pile of R/Post's must have been a yard high, I went in 2 weeks ago about the same time if they had 20 copy's that is as many as they had.
Report impossible123 August 31, 2018 11:51 AM BST
Who'd be the last one out? 1.01 Mr Bruce Millington, I firmly believe.
Report jmdc August 31, 2018 12:39 PM BST
Still paying 2.90 for his half a lager and happy with it!
Report TheFear August 31, 2018 12:40 PM BST
Definitely imposs but make no mistake whoever is above Bruce must be happy with the job he is doing. The RP is a bit like Betfair - it's all about the shareholders not the client base who got them where they are in the first place.
Report Ramruma August 31, 2018 1:12 PM BST
The paper's main problem is the same as all newspapers -- most people are online now. The Racing Post has adopted a so-called Digital First strategy for that reason. The problem is that it is harder to make money online -- advertising is cheaper and not enough people pay subscriptions. I'm no great fan of Bruce as editor but the problems would be the same whoever sits in the corner office.
Report TheFear August 31, 2018 1:21 PM BST
That's an easy get out for Bruce though isn't it? Dropping sales is because it's a digital world now. The newspaper is in no way worth £2.90 - especially on a Monday compared to a Saturday, for example. Bruce has taken it from a NEWS-paper to a tipping sheet :/
Report TheFear August 31, 2018 1:23 PM BST
And in my opinion Bruce isn't a racing man - he is a sports/ and or betting man. Hence, his weekly piece is in the sports section, his first love is football and the biggest problem he seems to have is with VAR Cry
Report impossible123 August 31, 2018 1:36 PM BST
I used to buy the odd one every week or when I went racing, but I'd not bought one for over 10 years; the paper is boring, and the contents are usually sh1t. I'd not been seen with one even when I went racing now even though I do subscribe to one broadsheet in digital form.

The Racing Post does not represent horse or greyhound racing fans, but merely an advertising and tipping billboard for bookies. As such, I do not even follow the opinions of their shrinking journalistic pool on these two sports.
Report onlooker August 31, 2018 1:47 PM BST
Correct - The Fear.

Bruce started off compiling Greyhound cards on the Sporting Life 'Dog Desk'

Moved on to, the newly formed, Sports Betting Desk - when (other) Sports Betting began to burgeon - and the phenomenon was catching newspapers, and bookies 'on the hop', staffing-wise.
Bruce was in the 'right place at the right time

Became Sports Betting Editor  - maybe, again, Bruce just happened to be the 'right place, right time' option.

Moved to the Racing Post - in the same position lf Sports Betting Editor

Became overall Editor of Racing Post ... having NEVER worked on a HORSE RACING Desk in his career.

Some may say, a somewhat charmed career of always being in the 'right place at the right time'.

That would be a 1.0something on here

Others may say he took full advantage of the opportunities offered ... as so many others have done so in the past, in all walks of life - and will continue to do so.
Report impossible123 August 31, 2018 2:39 PM BST
Mr Millington is a 'yes sir, no sir' employee devoid of the ability to question instructions or orders, but merely to feather his own nest regardless ie as long as he himself is ok others do not matter. And this is clearly reflected in the present day Racing Post eg daily print with non-relevant and boring contents.
Report TheFear September 2, 2018 9:17 AM BST
I see a bit like the Sun. Bruce is Rebecca Brooks and whoever is really pulling the strings is the Rupert Murdoch in the background. They are playing a blinder because he takes all the stick and ruins his reputation. Bruce is either took thick to realise he is the fall guy or he's happy enough with whatever he's getting out of it.

Two more well known names who have been there years are also leaving i believe.
