Race 5 - 7:55pm
THE smarkets.com HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) The Veterinary Officer reported that DALSHAND (FR), trained by David O’Meara, was presented for an identification check with a dry substance around its head and muzzle. The trainer’s representative, the Veterinary Officer and the Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer were interviewed. The trainer’s representative’s explanation that DALSHAND (FR) has clay applied to its joints at evening stables and that it was residue from the previous day’s application of clay that appeared on the gelding was noted. Being satisfied that DALSHAND (FR) had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed the gelding to run and ordered DALSHAND (FR) to be routine tested. An enquiry was held into the running and riding of PADDY A (IRE), placed second, ridden by Ben Curtis, FOUR KINGDOMS (IRE), placed third, ridden by Andrew Breslin, QUESTION OF FAITH, placed fourth, ridden by Callum Rodriguez and DALSHAND (FR), placed fifth, ridden by Daniel Tudhope, which were ridden detached from the clear leader on the final circuit before being asked for their efforts early in the home straight. The riders were interviewed and with the exception of Breslin stated that they had all been on hold up horses and had been unconcerned as they felt that the winner had gone far too quickly and would come back to them. Breslin stated that having initially made the running, when challenged by a free-running CLIFFS OF DOVER (IRE) with a circuit to run he elected to ease his mount and take a sit. All riders stated their mounts finished very tired and, in their opinion, would not have finished any closer if they had been asked to chase the winner any earlier. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations. Following the race, Daniel Tudhope reported that DALSHAND (FR), placed fifth, was unsuited by the way the race was run. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing, revealed the gelding had bled from the nose. The Veterinary Officer further reported that FOUR KINGDOMS (IRE), placed third, lost its left hind shoe. NOTED ![]() |

Breslin stated that they had all been on hold up horses and had been unconcerned as they felt that the winner had gone far too quickly and would come back to them.
As has been stated above the winning time was over 16 seconds slower than Standard on GF going. The second horse finished ten lengths behind that. If the other 4 clowns judgement of pace is that poor, they really really should be shovelling shyyte in the stable yard for the rest of their lives. |
