Watch when he rides in a finish, hes soooooo weak, he doesnt even hit the horse either. Beyond me there are hundreds of better jockeys and he still gets 1000's of rides a season

Not as young as he was, we all get old. He's still better than a lot riding.

you,d done your dough there once he never got in front, might have ran a great race, may well have been a good ride but was never winning even for 1 stride during the whole 2 miles

Imagine paying for a dominatrix and she whipped as hard as Fanning does....you'd be demanding your money back

Only someone like Eddie Hall would have the strength to influence a 500KG+ animal trouble is he's nearly 30 stone encouragement is the important factor in jockeyship, comments like 'McCoy lifts him home' and 'women are weaker than men in a finish' have just fueled this bolox for decades.

The jockey on Trautmann deserves the plaudits there, saw Joe oh so confident, followed him, and came round the outside and boxed him in as Joe wanted to make a move. Very poor ride.

Wouldn't blame him there, he was on an awkward horse who needs holding onto for as long as possible, he was between two horses and needed the horse to go through the gap without being asked the question as bringing him off the bridal that far out would have been curtains anyhow, the horse couldn't do it...gap closed ....race over

A corrupt ride changes to a poor ride in the space of a minute = mug cools down

No jockey change was there, standard Fanning!

If you don't ride out a horse to obtain the best possible finishing position YOU SHOULD BE BANNED, regardless of whether New Abbey Angel is quirky, he has not even pushed the horse out in the final furlong or so, and therefore HAS NOT RIDDEN THE HORSE OUT TO OBTAIN THE BEST POSSIBLE FINISHING POSITION, so I stand by he should be banned and it was a corrupt ride.

Hey domino14 your getting a bit too negative over weak rides lol. Liking your style now. That was poor from fanning just never seemed to make an effort. What happened to his whip ffs. As for the guy saying gap closed you could have got at least 2 horses through the front three a furlong and half out.  Backed Morris and that was an amazing ride.

Hoss is obviously a tricky customer.. but there's no doubt Fanning is a joke. He's given this hoss poor rides in the past,, that's why I was delighted to see Dougie get a shot the other night..but whether he took it upon himself to ride the hoss more positively..or more likely was under instructions to do so, it considerably lessened its winning chance. I was almost tempted to give the beast a final, final chance given that I strongly suspected the hold up style would be brought back..

Obv delighted I didn't after watching the useless Fanny give another one of his pi$$ poor specials.

New Abbey Angel's been dodgy from day 1 even when it won under Lulu it's head was practically horizontal and they ditched the visor over a year ago as it was pointless,if that horse ever wins it'll have to be under cautious handling and plenty other stuff will have to happen with the rest of the runners.

Race record

Runs 42    Wins 1    2nd 11    should be enough to alert punters there could be something dodgy about the horse.

Denzil I'm not saying the horse SHOULD HAVE WON, but the facts are it came 5th, and from 1.5f to the line when he got squeezed out of a gap, he stood up in the irons, and didn't even ask the horse any effort to pick up, he made NO ATTEMPT to make sure his mount obtained the best finishing position, he could have given the horse a ride to try and get a place, but didn't, the horse may be a rogue, but it got no assistance at all from the saddle today.

What if the trainer told the jockey not to p1ss the horse off further by hitting too much?
What if the trainer told the jockey not to use the whip at all for the same reason?

Every jockey that rides that horse has the sames issues he has to be kidded to consent to race when the going gets tough further aggression is detrimental to the horses' performance so if ridden more aggressively is a non trying ride in his case.

Denzy, stop making silly excuses. We all agree the hoss is difficult, but to act like he "shouldn't be ridden" is just stupid. I've seen the beast being held up and then finishing well "after being ridden/driven". If trainers/jockeys wish to have a hoss ridden like a statue was sitting on it, they should be made to state it prior to its race; "Expect little to no animation in the saddle"

Snipy it aint a silly excuse it's a fact that some horses don't respond under pressure and some respond negatively.
Harchibald was a famous case in point where no matter what the jockey did the horse never responded when ridden aggressively of the bridle.

Denzy, you're not listening, I already told you I've seen the Abbey responding to being ridden. I'm not questioning the fact that certain hosses are reluctant(or flat out refuse) to give anything when asked the question. But again, jocks can't be deciding one time and not the other.

I agree with Domino and Prosniper here...and I was on the winner...
The ride on Abbey was very, very poor. He should have at least got placed at the very worst.
Fanny seems to do this a lot at the moment. He’s as weak as a kitten but I think it’s time for him to give up the game if that’s all he can offer in the saddle on a regular basis.

On those occasions the horse would've still been in a comfort zone it's when it gets hard that these horses cave in so jockeys try to keep them on the bridle for as long as possible.
As far as finishing that's only visually relative to the other horses in the race the sectionals would probably say otherwise.

"comfort zone" Laugh Jockey to stewards please. Stewards: Now, Mr jockey, why did you sit on that hoss and hardly move a muscle? Jockey: Cos I knew it wasn't in it's comfort zone. Stewards: Fair enough. You're free to go.

A few years ago, just after I packed in riding there was a few vancancies to be stewards, you would obviously start off as a stipe, but I went to one of the recruitment meetings and in this, they show you 10 videos of rides and expected to give an honest viewpoint to any offence that has occurred and your viewpoint as to what punishment if any should be, based on the guidelines given.

I was told after submitting my findings I would not make a suitable steward because my opinions and actions were too harsh and there ended my opportunity to help make racing straight. Sadly all the stewards are all yes men, and too frightened to make a decision which can have an impact on the sport.

Had I been a steward yesterday I would have called in trainer and rider and asked to explain the lack of effort in the ride, I would have expected the same this is how the horse needs to be ridden, and then show both trainer and jockey videos of previous runs of the horse, where he HAS at least been pushed out for a place, but on this occasion the horse had been asked for no effort and was therefore not asked to obtain the best possible finishing position.

I would have banned Fanning for 7 days, fined the trainer £5,000 and made note of the incident and state that should the horse be ridden in the same manner in future races where next to no effort is given, I would have no alternative but to Remove the jockey's and trainers license with immediate affect for the period of 60 days.

The only way to get the game straight is by stamping out on bad practice.

The horse in his four previous races, had been pushed out to some degree, so no the jockey doesn't have to sit bolt up right on the horse and make no effort Denzil and the fact that a rider can do that and it's deemed perfectly acceptable is what makes it even more corrupt.

It should also be asked of the trainer, if the horse is SO UNGENUINE why has the horse not been raced in cheek pieces, visors or blinkers for the last 2 years, a solution for most quirky horses.

This horse is a corrupt trainers dream, because it appears a rider can do nothing and get away with it.

The other day Dougie Costello pushed it right out to be 4th, and he was even pushed out by Fanning 2 runs back, then on his two prior runs to that he was pushed out by Conor Beaseley. There is simply no excuse for a horse not to even be pushed out, and as shown in it's previous 4 races it can be pushed out and still run to the line !

There is three main reasons this game is as bent as it is;

1 - Easy for riders and trainers to get away with stopping horses
2 - Stewards too soft
3 - Betting Exchanges

Until all three are addressed accurately it will not end and only get worse.

I've  always felt for anyone to be able to lay a horse for over £250 on Betfair or any exchange, they should have to apply for a license of some sort and their phone records made available on request by the BHA. If you are genuinely laying on a form opinion or being a bookmaker you would have no argument with this, it's only those looking to lay on corrupt means who would. If you have nothing to hide there should never be an issue.

It would also make it very difficult for corrupt practice in the sport.

Further to this if a jockey not riding out to obtain the best position was treated as 7 day ban, 30 day ban, 60 day ban and the permanent license removed, they simply would not stop horses

Same penalties for a trainer as well.

Yesterday's ride was disgusting for me, I don't think I'm a sheep and from my years in the sport I think I can spot corrupt practice, yesterday in my opinion was rogue, nothing to do with the horse, the circumstance and delivery was rogue.

It's a shame the BHA have no balls.

Why would anyone stop a horse that already stops itself from winning?
After the horse was squeezed up he didn't consent to run on and was already going too slow when he was squeezed pushing harder would make NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER,I'm sure anyone connected to or previously connected to New Abbey Angel would be laughing their t!ts off at this thread whilst begrudging the training fees.
