Must have been watching a different race, Godolphin horse was flat out from around 5f out and beaten 3 out, very moderate horse, wouldn't have won with any ride, not sure how a jockey gets blamed when a horse is beaten 50L plus, and is hard off the bridle after 3f of a race !

Not saying it would have won or even placed Domino. But when you have the horse 6 wide from the outset what chance do you really give it? I think a group horse running in a seller with a lot of runners would struggle to win covering that much ground....let alone a horse on its debut being given that sort of introduction.

Agreed. Would never have won, but surely on debut better to get the horse switched off with cover. Driving it forward so wide was always going to end in failure.

1 - How many bends are you going round wide 2 - What sort of pace are you going 3 - How good the horse is
I've ridden a horse from a wide draw at Wolves over 7f, had no chance to drop in, and went 5 deep throughout, I finished 3rd beaten a length and got slated for it, but my horse was a shade lazy and needed riding throughout, I said had I dropped in, I would have lost ground and momentum and the ground I lost going wide, I gained keeping my horse in the clear and gong forward.
Good horses can win going wide against weak opposition. Every horse is different.
A genuine group horse would win any seller over 8f+ giving a plater a 15L head start, and you don't lose 15L going wide round bends, so whilst I can see your point I don't fully agree.
I think it depends on a number of things;1 - How many bends are you going round wide2 - What sort of pace are you going3 - How good the horse isI've ridden a horse from a wide draw at Wolves over 7f, had no chance to drop in, and went 5 deep througho
Depends if it's just slow or not. If the horse is slow and has one gear, you would have no advantage dropping in, and better off keeping it going forward, without knowing the horse, it's impossible to comment.

Correct Fear. I was being a bit extreme with the group horse scenario Dom but you get the point. Egan rode a very poor race imo. I kind of get your point about over 7f, and this horse probably wouldn’t have ever been placed, but riding it that way over 1m 4f never, ever gave it a hope. If he’d buried it at the back of the field and given it a sympathetic ride I think most would be less critical but the ride it was actually given couldn’t really have been any worse.
