The names of the horses are previous winners of "The Lincolnshire Handicap", a two-mile flat race which ran at Lincoln race course from 1849 until 1965, when it became "The Lincoln" and the race transferred to Doncaster.

Knight Errant won the Galway Plate in 1957 and the Galway Hurdle in 1958. His owner Mrs Anne Biddle also won the Galway Plate in 1954 and 1956 with Amber Point. She was mainly associated with flat racing and owned Palmerstown stud/Palmerstown house for many years
