If you currently own one(or have in the past) which has served you well, and know it to be reliable and powerful enough to have no problem running multiple apps without slowing down,, easily capable of some light video editing etc.. then I'd appreciate if you would recommend me your model Happy

MUST HAVE/BE:

Windows OS

SSD

Intel Core i5 or above

Screen size no smaller than 12 inch..and no greater than 15 inch

Battery efficient. Don't want to have to live with the thing on charge.

Price range = £400-600.

I know that Shafty, that's why I'm asking you morons to help me out Laugh what have you got? I don't necessarily trust the reviews of those I believe to be biased one way or the way.. I'd much rather trust a fellow punters word over those pigs. I've been looking for over a week and it's beginning to do my ****g head in. Just when I think I've found 1, I see enough buyers rubbishing it all over the place Cry which sends me back to the drawing board Sad

birdy, can you vouch for that 1? I was looking more towards the brands Dell and HP. I know they "rate well" but I heard bad things about Lenovo "dropping out" a lot. And as punters, that's the last thing we want to be having trouble with Scared

mousey, what's your current baby? or are you fixed at your powerful PC? Grin

forget that the newer version is over a grand.
cant remember what paid for this when new must of been more than I thought .
ouch.

Pro-Sniper I currently have a Lenovo Ideapad similar model and it's the best laptop I have had so far.

Samsung! Interesting, shafty. Not a particular brand that gets mentioned a lot when talking about the daddy pc/laptop brand. I've had a cracking Samsung TV for years Cool

moony, was drawn to that a few times, can't remember what it was that put me back off that 1 ? Laugh The thing is I'd be prepared to go to a grand or over IF I really needed a machine that I was going to put through the ringer! but I won't be playing games or doing extensive work that higher-end laptops are built for. Surfing the web in a snappy manner, smooth video playback(got to bear in mind that HD p()rn.. Laugh ) running multiple apps, and the odd bit of video editing(smooth previewing) is all the power I need..

mousey Laugh

Cheers birdy, I might be forced to take a chance on a Lenovo Scared I'll make sure it's a deal where I can send the piece of crap back if it gives me any hassle Angry or doesn't live up to what's needed Sad

Buy it from Argos ProSniper as they never give a problem with faulty goods.

HP is one to avoid given experiences of friends and a relative in the industry who is a computer journalist. Personally owned a Samsung and a Lenovo i5; former still going great guns after 3 years, and latter too until a loose inlet socket/power connector incapacitated it. No doubt will continue to perform when sorted.

Asus is decent too and has a good reputation for being reliable and user friendly.

I was hoping ZODIE'S butcher might pop in and see me right. Being an IT whizz an all, I bet he knows where all the value/bargains lie..

Cheers hunty, not seen that site before. Might hold off a little longer and do some more scanning, birdy.. Laugh

Cheers possi, even though they seem to have a "good brand" rep, the amount of people I've seen complaining about HP products is quite worrying Scared as for Asus, I was trying to steer clear of that brand as I had a very bad experience with one a while back Sad

ProSniper, I meant Acer not Asus. I was advised the best time to buy a laptop is around March to present as newer models would have been out, and discontinued ones going for much cheaper. Also, big retailers like PCWorld offer massive cash-back on top. Good luck!
Report ProSniper July 28, 2018 2:40 PM BST
Cheers poss1. I agree on Acer. I had an Acer a few years ago which ran with 0 probs. I've also currently got an Acer chromebook which I really like. But of course they're limited to browsing/video watching. I've got a powerful PC. I've got a nice portable, solid browser in the chromebook, and now all I need is a combo of portability+power Cool

Will you be borrowing the printer off stewy?
Report sparrow July 28, 2018 2:49 PM BST
Ah Acer, I also had one some years ago and it was pretty poor value and would never look at another one.

Got my own printer Grin

birdy Laugh this just shows you the fine line these manufacturers tread. Sell someone 1 lemon and your whole brand becomes tainted! Laugh future custom forever lost Plain

Take your computer to a "computer mechanic" have them look at it and ask for a price for an upgrade. I have a Dell Inspiron cost £155 for upgrade as good as new. Saved myself a few quid.
