I would imagine he's juts a bit annoyed. Had 6 horses injure themselves on gallops in last few weeks. Has to commit to long term lease on yard if he wants to stay. Now with horses getting injured, can't bring himself to train the horses for autumn campaigns worried they will get injured. He was always a horseman and horseman make poor trainers, sadly the best trainers treat it like a production line and survival of the fittest.

Seemed quite capable to me  - Strike rate no worse than many others at 10%

Had a few gambles go amiss this year, though.

Comes from a long-line of racing people - Former jockey Eddie Hide, possibly great Uncle - his own family line traces back to generations of the Leader family - Ted and Harvey being well-known trainers in Newmarket

he was a jockey to be wary of (in my opinion) so im surprised he hasnt been able to transfer that to training. Ditto Barry F.

he never recovered after delta said bergholt would win the triumph hurdle.

The RP article reads more as a poor me type article. I suspect within a year he'll be back training somewhere for someone.

I am sure he does, he knows it so well he thought Hide was a jumps trainer.
He also had a great career as a jockey, last 10 years he is 0/10, most on here never heard of him as a jockey

Or you could look at the 250 winners from 2500 rides ridden from 1992 to 2007, then moved abroad and rode another 200 winners and returned to Uk in 2012, had a handful of rides, and retired. Hide rode over jumps, as said I hadn't followed him, in his piece he complained about having to ready jump horses for the Autumn and couldn't and 6 had got injured in the last month, it's not unreasonable to assume he was a jumps trainer reading that piece.

Are you saying the stats widely available are wrong JD...? As they have you responsible for 145 winners from approx 1,700 rides for the period you quote

Rode out in Jersey most years Cork, as well as winters in USA when younger and then far east a couple of years. The rode abroad in 2008-2012

The UK figures look right, so long ago now though.

I was ****.

I rode maybe 10-20 horses a week riding in France, Sweden, Germany and a few other places where I often drove to. Prize money was non existent and quality of racing was dire. I once had a horse come 3rd in the German St Leger and I earned around £500 for it. I rode horses which were mainly getting tailed off.Yes over 3 years abroad I had a good number of winners but in certain countries there are a lot of spares going about so you could always get 4-5 rides at a meeting, although mainly bad rides.

I was offered a stint in Bahrain and South Africa, but I had not long got married and my wife wanted to start a family and she didn't want to move again having left the Uk when it was pointless staying here.

We moved back 3 years ago, because the quality of education is better in the Uk and our daughter was ready to start primary school.

I rode from 1993 at the age of 16, through to 2005 in the UK, riding as an apprentice for 10 years and having around 20 winners, I then had a job riding out for a couple of big yards and picked up the odd rides here and there, one of the owners at the yard was a big owner in Germany and he offered me a job within his stable in Germany and promised me rides, so I took it. It was a good couple of years but my wife never enjoyed it. By the time I was 32 nearing 33 it wasn't really making money and my wife wanted to be back in England, so it made the decision to pack up easy. When I returned to the UK I was offered a couple of stable jobs up north and rode out for a small while and had 3 rides I think, but come 2011 I packed racing in altogether.

I took up Poker in 2013 and have done very well and that is a good earner for me, but my main line of work is in photography which I studied when I returned to the UK and is my main source of income.

Ex-jockey my arse. I'll tell you what he is; a waste of a good mans rations.

He is J D Smith had 145 winners in UK and a further 105 in Jersey, you are very lazy chav it is all in the above posts, but given you are a mate of stewarty, I don't mind spelling it out...!

pablo, think he has been consistent regards rides and winners, maybe a little misunderstanding from his wording of posts, re above think he mean't 20 a season rather than 20 in the 12 years, a slight exaggeration, but obviously like most on here, he rounds up rather than down...!

i'm not so sure corky . 11kv asks him a direct  simple question:

"ride any winners" and the answer is ,

"22 in the uk , then another 128 in germany " .

that's not going to be 22 a year in uk , but 128 in total in germany , no one would reply like that

You're right pablo, there is certainly a lot of confusion, mostly caused by posting different answers/information to the same questions, I am happy to believe that domino is JD but I would understand others taking the opposite view, the german leger one for certain is very hard to explain, perhaps JD will come on and enlighten us or set the record sort of straight...!

When first posted on the forum, I put out a few falsities, basically I didn't want people knowing who I was. But then a few threads were about races, and horses and people slating trainers and so on, and I posted honestly in my response and without thinking gave a few too many clues which made it more obvious without thinking. Anyway I can't be bothered with getting into nonsense threads and posts with people. It really isn't worth it. Most of the time I give my opinions on riders, trainers, horses and races which are views from my background or contacts and my opinion. I don't really care if people don't like it, but several times people post such nonsense in regards to rides and tracks, where they simply wouldn't know. If you can offer another perspective you hope people may actually see things from another side rather than thinking everything is stopped, cheating and rubbish so to speak, but some people don't want to listen and would rather argue. No point offering a view if people don't want to hear it and just want to be rude.

if only Chompy_imo was here to post, Irony!
