Stuck between a rock and a hard place what to do. Been in decent form lately and I'm thinking Martingale and stop at a winner. Going by what I fancy I'd be surprised if one didn't win. That said it can be an expensive venture.
Start off with a ton, then 200, then 400, then 800 then 1600 then.....I don't want to go there but when one is on fire albeit maybe temporarily, it does make me think....
I could put on a ticket but at the end of the day common sense will prevail. Will post my nap later.

No ALEX It's a genuine post. I was up late going through the cards but I can't back them all. I'm fairly confident my nap will give me a run for my money. That's the problem when on a good run, you just wait for the first failure.

I presume you're joking steve. When I laboured it was the small bricks before the breeze came along. I'm only guessing but with a good labourer maybe 6 hours for 200? |

mouse, my days of backing six in a day are well gone. I just mentioned I fancied six.

It depends what I'm running in. If it was 22 blocks long, and 9 high then I'd do it in a couple of hours. If it were a load of blockwork in between windows, then i might not do 200 in a day.

Thinking back a good few years I used to keep two brickies going on my own. I don't need to tell you but it was hod carrying plus setting up the bricks 10 minutes before KO time plus mixing the cement. (was it 2x4?) I'm thinking we did 1000 bricks a day?
Could be wrong there but at least 800. (small) |

With fork lifts, loading bays to put the bricks/blocks/compo on, it's much easier nowadays. 1000 bricks a day for us (between us) is a slow day. We probably average 1300. There's plenty out there who lay a lot more.

Plus, there's no mixing any more. You press a button on a silo and it mixes as much as you want. Bricks are wheeled round on a sack truck (one full band at a time). It's still hard graft, but it's about as efficient now as it'll ever get. It would've took you a day hodding 1000 bricks up a ladder. I can do it on my own now in 15 minutes.

Believe it or not steve I was 'poached' away from the brickies on the same site to work with slaters. The reason being I was classed as a 'good grafter'. walos. I had no choice but to go 100mph! I left to earn more money and that was something else. Carrying tiles onto the roof and laying them. That was the easy bit. Again, mixing cement for the scratch coating then again for the harling to take place whilst washing out the chips that didn't stick to the wall. wac of a job......or so I thought.
I was then poached by two plasterers who were on piece work. A harder job I've never had. Mixing the plaster in a home made wooden box with a rake to keep them going. Back breaking doesn't even come close to describing it. Now it's mixed in a 'plastic' bowl with a 'gun like' machine. Those were the days! |

I'll tell you something steve. If a young 18 or 19 year old with his fancy i phone, shades and 'plugged' into music went onto a building site just now and had a go with the old school plasterers they wouldn't last half an hour. Raking that box was the dry way of waterboarding.

All the houses we build are browning (or today's equivalent) with a skim on top. They only use dot and dab on housing association houses, so the new apprentices coming into are still doing it the 'old way', but instead of mixing in a bath they use a bucket and whisk.

Indeed steve. I worded it wrong in saying, Now it's mixed in a 'plastic' bowl with a 'gun like' machine. but at least you got my drift. 4 weeks on that job and I lost over a stone plus the pain in the lumber region. |
