Oliver Stammers, the rider of GREAT COLACI, placed second, had appeared to stop riding briefly approximately ½ a furlong out, then continued to ride out to the winning line. Being a 7lb claimer, Stammers was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Stammers’ explanation that he had mistaken the ½ furlong marker as the winning post but had quickly realised his error, was noted. The Stewards were satisfied that Stammers had only stopped riding for three strides and that no momentum was lost and as the winner was going away at the finish, they were satisfied that GREAT COLACI was always being held for second place. They reminded Stammers of his responsibilities to always ride out to the winning line. | |

THE CAPITAL ALLOWANCE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV I) Permission was given for SOMEONE EXCITING to go early to post. Jack Garritty, the rider of TOP OFFER had arrived in the Parade Ring after the signal to mount had been given. Being satisfied that this was due to the late jockey change, no further action was taken. Oliver Stammers, the rider of GREAT COLACI, placed second, had appeared to stop riding briefly approximately ½ a furlong out, then continued to ride out to the winning line. Tbh, he should have got given 1 or 2 days to teach him a lesson. Although as he's had a warning, and the result wasn't affected, if he done it again, the punishment will no doubt be severe.

Yellow Card system
Stewards should have ability to issue a yellow card for this offence (not the 1 or 2 days mentioned above. But there should be a lot more for failing to ride out 100%. This would let the jockeys be made aware they had come to stewards attention. Lets say a yellow lapses after X rides but 2 yellows = a ban But in the end its definitely the trainers who tell them where to end up. Crap ride with no valid excuse you usually get the heave ho. |
