Who are the longest serving licensed trainers ?

Definitely Easterby but think Kevin Prendergast may be next (1963). Thought Bailey was about 1980, plenty longer than that, Prescott 1970 and Spearing 1972.

If Kevin Prendergast took over from Paddy it was some time after 1963. Ragusa and Noblesse won Classics for Paddy that year.

I don't think Kevin "took over" from his dad ... Paddy was training up until the 70s IIRC, and Kevin was already training before that.

I must have had a brain fart when I thought that Alan Bailey was one of the longest served ...

and i'm sure if Henry Cecil and  Toby Balding hadn't have died , they'd still be training, and they were about in the late 60s

When you consider the likes of Duffield and Piggott  riding for 6 decades , theres no other sportsmen to compere,
Jockeys like Jimmy Quinn and Francis Norton have both been riding for over 30 years, and Norton especially, is still at the top of his game.

Milton Bradley has been training for a long time, and he's in his 80s.

Clive packed in about 3/4 year ago now for health reasons. He was an apprentice jockey in the 50s, I don't think he started training until the late 60s or early 70s. Milton I think started training in his late 30s so he again would be around the 1970 mark.

Ann Stokell no longer holds a trainers license, and hasn't since February 2017, she didn't renew her license last year for whatever reason and that remains the case.

I MUST keep up. Thought Brittain and Stokell were still training but on the other hand I thought Mick Easterby packed up years ago and the current M Easterby was his son.
I WAS aware Brittain couldn't have started training in 1949 but the Wiki article is badly written.

At one stage there were three Prendergasts training in Ireland, Paddy senior (Darkie)  and his two sons Kevin and Paddy Junior

"It's very gratifying. I wish I could have been there in the winner's circle," said the 97-year-old Bozzo, who watched the victory on his home computer. "That would have pumped me up even more."

A graduate of Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bozzo celebrated his 97th birthday on October 25.

The retired aeronautical engineer, industrialist, and World War II veteran sold his Pennsylvania bottle manufacturing company in 1969. He has been breeding and training Thoroughbreds in South Florida since the 1970s.

2nd winner since 2015.
