started betting in the early 70s ,probably wouldnt have got into the game if it wernt for 2 old boys who used to bet every day at work ,sitting in the canteen at tea or lunch breaks they would disscus the horses chances ,never took much notice untill one afternoon one of them asked if i wanted pick a horse out to come in on a bet with them ,a yankee it was and cant remember exactly the small details but i picked out a horse and i put around 60p in for the bet , the other non gamblers were saying its a mugs game and "youve done your dough them 2 never win fook all" etc ,next morning i went into work and one of the old codgers said well done we had 4 winners and i would get a few quid back ,dint know fook all about betting and just assumed i would have 2 quid to come back and was happy with that ,at lunch break one of the old boys handed me over £20 iirc couldnt belive it it was over a weeks wages for me in them days ...........hooked ! just wondering if i lost my dough would i have carried on gambling .........dont know for sure but glad i went in on that bet as ya cant beat the ups and downs of punting !
